As 2024-25 training camp nears, Rockets begin utilizing new training, practice facility

With NBA training camps set to open by Oct. 1, 2024, for the new season, players on the Rockets will soon report to Houston to begin preparing for the 2024-25 campaign.

When they do, the expectation is for their daily routine to look a bit different than it did in 2023-24 and previous years.

This year, the Rockets have a new state-of-the-art training and practice facility opening up. Funded by owner Tilman Fertitta, the $70-million project is located just a few minutes north of The Post Oak Hotel — also owned by Fertitta — on Houston’s I-610 West Loop.

Recent videos posted on the team’s social media channels showed players practicing at the new facility. The team’s red color scheme and branding is on the court, but it’s clearly not the previous site, which had red walls.

Since opening Toyota Center in 2003, the Rockets had trained on a single practice court inside the same building. But Fertitta, who bought the franchise in October 2017, consistently expressed his desire to build a new facility with multiple practice courts and superior training infrastructure.

Now, with the new facility boasting 75,000 square feet of space, the Rockets have tripled the size of their former site, according to the team. Offices for basketball operations executives and staffers are moving to the new complex, as well, with the vacated space at Toyota Center being repurposed for the organization’s business operations.
