A well-known Lexington restaurant that was temporarily closed announces reopening date
A popular downtown Lexington restaurant that recently closed has announced it will reopen.
O’Hara’s Bakery Cafe, located at 121 E. Main St., will reopen on Monday, Oct. 14, according to a weekend post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, serving breakfast, lunch and more.
“Thanks to all for your patience as we are working through the steps of returning to dine-in (table) service,” the restaurant posted. “Going back to our roots as a full-service coffee shop and café serving specialty coffees, pastries, and an elevated breakfast and lunch!”
O’Hara’s Bakery Cafe also shared photos over the weekend of key items, including a breakfast plate featuring eggs, toast, bacon and hash browns.
The business won’t initially be offering desserts or dessert bar hours, as it has had in the past, but noted it hopes to be able to offer those in the “not-too-distant future.”
O’Hara’s Bakery Cafe announced Sept. 22 that it would be temporarily closing, with owner Matt O’Hara posting that bakery leadership was “evaluating all options that are available to us with hopes of coming through this with a viable hospitality business.”
Now the eatery is set to give it a go with a daily table service breakfast and lunch model. Much of the same staff that has worked at bakery and cafe in the last five years will remain, according to the weekend Facebook post.
Matt O’Hara also is part of the ownership team at O’Hara’s Public House, an Irish pub just a few doors down at 131 E. Main St. That business has remained open.
The bakery has been one of a number of restaurants and bars that have helped transform downtown Lexington in recent years. Popular downtown eateries include O’Hara’s Public House, Keg Cowboy, Bodhi Thai Dining, Groucho’s Deli, Barrio, Craft Axe Throwing, Cribb’s, Bubba’s Biscuit, Libby’s, and Nicky’s Pizzeria. There are also a host of stores, such as Craig Reagin Clothiers and The Kindred Boutique, among others. The Icehouse Amphitheater remains a busy venue, and TakoSushi just opened a new location at Main and Church streets.
