Shenae Grimes-Beech reflects on rediscovering herself after having children
The Canadian actress opened up about the challenges and joys of motherhood as she raises two children.
Shenae Grimes-Beech is getting candid about motherhood.
On Wednesday, the former "Degrassi: The Next Generation" star celebrated her 34th birthday with a reflective message about her journey of "self-rediscovery" after becoming a mother.
The "90210" actress marked another successful trip around the sun with a stunning photo of herself dressed in all black — taken by her husband Josh Beech — effortlessly channelling the essence of "Scorpio season."
In the caption, Grimes-Beech opened up about the challenges and joys of motherhood, detailing the process of rediscovering herself amidst the demands of raising two young children, Kingsley Taylor and Bowie Scarlett. She described this period as her "season of matrescence."
With refreshing honesty, she shared, "Today was an overstimulated, overtired travel sh—show, so the glamour of this photo doesn't represent the reality of most of the day but it absolutely does represent how I'm finally start to see and embrace myself in the midst of all the butt-wiping and refereeing sibling meltdowns."
"It doesn't feel like it often, there is space for me," she continued, adding, "I’m determined to unapologetically make the space. Because that’s who I am."
She expressed her gratitude for the love and support she has received from her fans throughout the years, writing, "Makes me feel supported and truly gives me a sense of purpose I'm deeply grateful for."
In the comments, fans thanked Grimes-Beech for her "realness."
"I love your realness so much. Motherhood is so messy and overwhelming, it's easy to lose yourself in it. Keep pushing through. You got this," an Instagram user penned.
"You're such a powerful empowering woman and I inspire to have your self confidence! We have kiddos almost about the same age and I'm too 34," another commented. "BTW, you look absolutely stunning in that outfit!"
"Well said as always, Shenae," someone added.
One person shared: "You're a badass and I'm glad to know you!"
Last month, Grimes-Beech shared a candid Instagram Reel firing back at "keyboard warriors" who criticized her appearance. After unveiling a dramatic new haircut — a bob with french-cut fringe — Grimes-Beech shared a TikTok with the caption, "When people let you know you didn't 'age terribly' because of your wrinkles, it's because of your 'terrible haircut.'"
In a tearful video message, she addressed the hurtful comments and opened up about the impact and consequences words can have on someone's mental health.
"I'm not the person that just shows up crying on social media, but these tears have to do with social media," she began, acknowledging the emotional toll of recent online harassment. "It's been a sh—-storm of a week."
She added in the caption: "Before you start typing under this post or any other, little keyboard warriors, you do not know what somebody is experiencing behind closed doors."
"Mental health is an issue that is devastating society right now. Yet, when we're typing away behind the security blanket of a screen, so many people seem to have a total lack of compassion," she wrote.
