Sarah Nicole Landry on being in 'partnership' with her body: 'Call it a journey'
The Guelph, Ont.-native shared a "powerful" body positive message with her 2.2 million followers.
Sarah Nicole Landry is learning to be in "partnership" with her body.
On Monday, the Canadian influencer — better known as The Birds Papaya — took to Instagram to share a "powerful" message with her 2.2 million followers.
The Guelph, Ont.-native is known for her empowering content that centres on body image, relationships and motherhood.
In the carousel of images, Landry posed in a black spaghetti-strap slip dress by Londre Bodywear. She accompanied the "beautiful" photos with a caption about the relationship between her mind and body.
"Who shaped who? Because I’ll tell you, I thought I was the captain of this vessel. I was the one in charge. I was the one responsible. So if my shape disobeyed the ways of my wishes, that was on me. That was my shame to carry. And so began the discourse of person vs. body," she penned.
The mother-of-four went on to explain this discourse was "a lot of weight to carry around," especially for someone who was struggling with confidence.
"... The sheer responsibility to care for it [her body] and somehow getting twisted up in hating it too. So dear body, who shaped who? Because I always thought it was me who shaped you," she continued.
The self-love advocate added that in the end, her body was the one who supported her through tough times, not the other way around.
"But if I’m honest, and perhaps exhausted by it all, I think you shaped me the most. I think you held me when I held hate. You carried me when I felt the weight. You heard every cry, and you pushed me into a love I had never before believed in," she said.
Landry ended her caption by thanking her body and the "partnership" she has with it.
"So we shape each other. Not vessel and captain, but body and person. Call it a love story. Call it a partnership. Call it a journey. Call it just living. This is my body and I am its person. Thank you."
In the comments, fans praised the content creator for her inspiring and vulnerable words.
"More and more, I look at what my body has carried me through. And that has been a lot of heavy stuff," commented a follower. "Thank you for your words, inspirations and encouragement to be."
"Wow, immediate tears. So emotional in the best way. I wish I had read this as a teenager who hated my body," wrote a fan.
"This is such a beautiful, power statement of our mind-body relationship!" shared someone else.
"Beautifully said. So powerful. Your awareness and positivity is helping so many people," added another. "Also, these photos are so beautiful!"
Earlier this month, the influencer also opened up about stretch marks.
On Instagram, Landry filmed herself in the bathroom getting dressed. She fixed her hair and pulled a pair of black leggings over her stomach after showing fans her beloved tiger stripes.
"The other day someone said I show my stretch marks too much. I thought about it. Probably too much. Am I too much?" she asked.
However, Landry was quick to scrap the thought and explained that she purposely puts her stomach on display to help normalize it.
"I’ll admit, my saturation of it is intentional. I want this to look and feel so normal that it's never a surprise," she said. "I want stretch marks on billboards and bikini campaigns like they're a natural part of existence. Because for me, and many others, they are."
