Haunted houses, trick-or-treating, parties — don’t miss these Whatcom County Halloween events

Halloween is only two weeks away, and as you may still be planning your costume, there are many events in Whatcom County where you can show it off.

During the month of October, Whatcom County is full of trick-or-treating events, fall festivals, spooky parties and more.

Trick-or-treating events

Downtown Ferndale Trick-or-Treat will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 along Main Street. Participants are encouraged to start at 3rd and Main St., head east to 1st Ave., and then to Pioneer Pavilion for more trick-or-treating. The event is free to attend, but no pets are allowed.

Downtown Bellingham Trick-or-Treat runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. The free event is open for all ages, and costumes are encouraged as participants collect treats from over 100 participating businesses.

Trick-or-Treat on The Berm will run from 3 to 5 p.m. in Birch Bay on Saturday, Oct. 26. The free event runs along Commercial Street on the berm and includes free activities at the Birch Bay Vogt Library Express at 7948 Birch Bay Drive.

Welcome to “FEAR”Haven - Village Trick-or-Treat in Fairhaven runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. The free event includes trick-or-treating at participating businesses and a free photo booth. The event is at the Fairhaven Village Green at 1207 10th St. in Bellingham.

The second annual Cordata Trick-or-Treat runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. The free trick-or-treat event begins at Christ the King Church at 4151 Meridian St. and ends at Larrabee Lager. The event is open to all ages and includes more than 20 candy stops, a photo booth and hot chocolate.

Haunted houses

Spooktacular — a spooky event for ages 4 and up that includes a haunted house, witch walk, games, seance room, ghost tales open mic, silent disco and a Halloween dance party — will run Oct. 24-27. The event is open from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Sunday and 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $15 per person Thursday and Sunday, or $25 per person on Friday and Saturday. Family-pack tickets for four people cost $55 on Thursday and Sunday and $90 on Friday and Saturday. Tickets must be purchased online in advance. Spooktacular is at Woodstock Farm at 107 Chuckanut Drive N., and shuttles are available.

Whatcom Frightmare, a haunted house experience in Ferndale’s Pioneer Park, opens Oct. 18. The haunted house has both “light scare” and “full scare” experiences. It costs $8 per person or $30 per groups of four people, and children age 5 and under are free. The haunted house is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Oct. 18, 19 and 25; 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 20 and 27; and 3 to 10 p.m. Oct. 26. Pioneer Park is at 2000 Cherry St. in Ferndale.

The Scream Fair Haunted House at the NW WA Fairgrounds in Lynden runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26. The event is open for all ages, although parental discretion is advised. Tickets are sold at the door only and cost $12 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. The NW WA Fairgrounds is at 1775 Front St. in Lynden.

The Nightmare on Maple St., a Halloween party and haunted house, is returning to Boundary Bay Brewery from Oct. 24-26. The brewery’s beer garden is transformed into a haunted garden as a fundraiser to the Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth. The Haunted Fear Garden is open for all ages from 6 to 9 p.m., and 21 and older from 9 to 11 p.m. Entry costs $10 per person, or $5 for ages 12 and under.

Halloween parties (All Oct. 31)

The Dead Will Rise, a 21-and-over Halloween party and concert at Boundary Bay Brewery, begins at 8:30 p.m. The concert features The Sleepy Alligators, a Grateful Dead cover band. Tickets can be purchased online in advance for $12, or $15 at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m. at 1107 Railroad Ave. in Bellingham.

Nightmare on State Street, a 21-and-over Halloween party at Aslan Depot, will include “spooky cocktails, our famous Jell-O shots,” a costume contest and live music by KraymerGDot. Doors open at 3 p.m., and music starts at 8 p.m. at 1322 N. State St. in Bellingham.

Trackside Halloween Party at Kulshan Trackside Beer Garden will include trick-or-treating, live music and DJs, and a “Thrillingham” dance performance. The free event starts at 4 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. at 298 West Laurel St. in Bellingham.

Other spooky events

Howl-o-ween Downtown Dog Parade starts at noon at the corner of Railroad and Champion in downtown Bellingham on Sunday, Oct. 27. The free event includes a parade of costumed dogs, dog trivia, a dog costume contest, dog pastries and live music. The event is put on by Shake & Shine at 1501 N State St. in Bellingham.

The City of Frightdale, a Ferndale city-wide Halloween decorating contest, is back for another year. During the week of Halloween Ferndale residents can vote for participating homes to declare “Ferndale’s most frightening home,” according to a news release. Those wishing to participate in the competition can enter before Oct. 24. Voting runs from Oct. 25 through Nov. 1, and the list of participating homes to visit will be on the city of Ferndale’s website.

Bellingham Ghost Tours, led by professional psychic Charles Crooks, takes participants on walking tours through downtown Bellingham and Fairhaven. The tours travel under a mile and cost $25 per person, and some tours are open to all ages. For the tour schedule and tickets, visit Bellingham Ghost Tours website.

Hellingham, an improv murder mystery show, will be performed at The Upfront Theatre throughout October. On Halloween, visitors can participate in a Halloween costume contest. The show is open to all ages and runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights through Nov. 2. Tickets are available online in advance. The Upfront Theatre is at 203 Prospect St. in Bellingham.

Bleedingham, a horror short film festival, will run Oct. 26-27 at the Pickford Film Center. Tickets for various horror films are available online in advance or at the theater. Pickford Film Center is at 1318 Bay St. in Bellingham.
