Downtown SLO restaurant that specialized in takeout delicacies closes suddenly

Another downtown San Luis Obispo restaurant has closed up shop.

SLO Provisions, known for its distinct rotisserie-based menu and take-away options, has closed after nine years, its owners announced last weekend.

“We want to thank our amazing SLO community and dedicated regulars for your support, loyalty and friendship over the years,” owners Steve Bland and Dwyne Willis said in a message to customers. “It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome you into our ‘home,’ serve you and get to know you over a meal. We will miss each of you very much.”

The restaurant opened at 1255 Monterey St. in 2015, taking over what was the former Popolo Catering location.

At the time, Bland and Willis told The Tribune they had been looking for an opportunity to break into the San Luis Obispo restaurant scene after lengthy careers in the upscale food and beverage industry.

“We’ve been talking about doing something like this forever, and 13 years later (after moving to San Luis Obispo from Atlanta), we finally did,” Bland told The Tribune in May 2016.

SLO Provisions specialized in take-away and dine-in options, including “house-roasted rotisserie meats, family-style dinners, specialty sandwiches, farm-fresh salads, andrustic-style baked goods” and signature drinks, coffee, wine and beer, according to its website.

It notably became a popular spot for holiday take-away meals, offering special Thanksgiving and other holiday menus.

It gained even more popularity over time and was named California’s Small Business of the Month in September 2017.

In their message to customers, Bland and Willis did not disclose a reason for the closure.

The restaurant deleted all of its social media as of Monday, though its website was still online.
