Costco’s Newest Bakery Find Is So Good—I’m Stocking up for the Holidays

It will be a go-to for all of my holiday get-togethers.

Costco’s bakery is full of beloved baked goods that fans clamor for. There are the larger-than-your-head chocolate chip muffins, the rich and tender bakery croissants, and seasonal pies like apple and pumpkin that often sell out. Personally, I always grab a pumpkin pie for our family’s Thanksgiving celebration since it feeds a crowd.

Recently, I was so excited to see Costco add a new variety of its popular bakery cheesecake: Mixed Berry Streusel Cheesecake. I grabbed one immediately to taste test (you know, for holiday planning purposes). You’ll want to grab this one for all your fall and winter get-togethers.

This behemoth of a dessert is priced at $22.99 for a 4 1/2 pound cheesecake and easily feeds 15. I found it in the cold case of the bakery next to the classic and cherry streusel cheesecakes.

If you’re already familiar with the cherry streusel cheesecake from Costco, this berry version is similar but distinct. The base of the cheesecake is Costco’s take on graham cracker crust—a little thicker than homemade graham cracker crust, making it studier. The cheesecake layer is creamy and rich while also having an incredibly lightness to it.

Then, the cheesecake gets really exciting in the berry and streusel layer. The topping is a layer of jam—like filling made from cherries, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries—and a simple streusel mixture of butter, sugar, and flour. It's the most swoon-worthy texture. The jam is slightly chewy at the edges, and the streusel gives a delicate crunch that the sturdy crust is missing.

The berry mixture's tartness balances the cheesecake's rich creaminess, making it nearly impossible to stop coming back for another bite. Cold from the fridge was great, but the flavors really came to life with a bit of time at room temperature to take the chill off, like 30 to 45 minutes.

Costco rolled out this new cheesecake flavor in September. You should call your local store or check online before heading into a store because not all of them carry it. And if you spot this cheesecake and want to ensure you’ve got one for holiday gatherings or upcoming celebrations, cheesecake does freeze perfectly. Just be sure to thaw it slowly in the fridge for the best texture.

While Costco’s pumpkin pie will likely always be my family’s favorite for the holidays, I can’t wait to add this berry streusel cheesecake to this year’s dessert menu for Thanksgiving and will keep my fingers crossed it becomes a returning item and a new family tradition.
