Everyone knows that Jimmy John’s is “freaky fresh” and “freaky fast,” but did you know that the sandwich chain is freaky trendy, too? In 2023, Jimmy John’s created a starter jacket that screamed throwback ‘90s fashion and had us wanting to buy it immediately. Then, earlier this year, it hopped on the fiery menu trend with its Firecracker lineup, complete with a new wrap and potato chips.

Now, it’s playing into the world’s love for dill pickles with an all-new, first-of-its-kind fast food sandwich that you’re going to want to try.

Jimmy John’s is releasing a new Picklewich that’s unlike any other sandwich on its menu. Why? Because instead of bread, the “sandwich” uses two halves of a giant Kosher dill pickle.

The new Picklewich will hit menus in two varieties: the Vito and the Turkey & Provolone. The Vito features a hollowed-out dill pickle filled with salami, capocollo, provolone, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, sauce, and herbs. And the Turkey & Provolone is a gutted dill pickle stuffed with turkey, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and onion.

Jimmy John’s Picklewich was likely inspired by the pickle sandwich from the Long Island store Seven Brothers Gourmet Food Market that went viral on TikTok over the summer. That sandwich also featured a scooped-out pickle filled with deli meat, cheese, bacon, and some additional toppings.

Now, pickle lovers won’t have to make a trip to New York to try the salty dill sandwich because Jimmy John’s is bringing the Picklewich to its menus nationwide. Beginning Oct. 28, you can order the Picklewiches in restaurants—and for freaky fast delivery—however, you’ll have to try it soon because the sandwiches are only on the menu until Nov. 14.

Alongside the pickle sandwiches, Jimmy John’s is bringing back its fan-loved Pickle Jimmy Chips for a limited time. Whether paired with a Picklewich or your go-to order, the zesty dill-flavored chips are a must-grab while they’re back on menus.

I recently got to try the new Turkey & Provolone Picklewich and Pickle Jimmy Chips early, and here is my honest review.

As a pickle lover myself, I really do get the hype surrounding all things salty, briny, and dill-flavored. I’m always going to ask, “Are you going to eat your pickle?” when I’m out with someone and will agree to an order of fried pickles no matter what.

Because of that, I was excited to try the new Picklewich, since I think a pickle can make or break a sandwich. My only fear going into trying the Picklewich was that it was going to be very messy and maybe a little too wet from all the brine.

I tried the Turkey & Provolone Picklewich, which is slightly similar to my go-to Jimmy John’s order, the Club Lulu, just with no bacon or mayo. The first thing I noticed was that the Picklewich is pretty small compared to a normal sub, but it makes sense when you think about the size of a pickle.

The pickle sandwich comes tightly wrapped in paper, which you do need to keep on when eating to prevent the innards from falling out and getting your hands wet with brine. The flavors were delicious, which wasn’t a surprise to me. As a pickle fan, of course, a turkey and cheese sandwich with extra pickles is going to be delicious.

My only qualms were what I had expected: The sandwich was incredibly messy. Between the briny juices dripping out and the meat trying to press out the back of the sandwich when I took a bite, eating the Picklewich was a bit tricky. Additionally, I love Jimmy John’s fresh bread, so I kind of missed it. However, all in all, the Picklewich was tasty and a much more flavorful option for those who can’t eat bread and are sick of lettuce wraps.

Will it replace my go-to Jimmy John’s order? No, but I think I will be adding a Jimmy Pickle directly to my sandwiches from now on rather than eating it on the side. With that said, I do want to try the Vito Picklewich because the meat-filled sandwich sounds like it has a little more to offer than the Turkey & Provolone.

As for the Pickle Jimmy Chips, they might be the best dill pickle potato chips I’ve ever had. They’re zesty and have a fresh dill flavor that’s hard to find in many commercial potato chips. So, Jimmy John’s, if you want to leave those on the menu forever, I’d greatly appreciate it.
