Canadian TV host Chloe Wilde says she's 'struggling' with postpartum mental health
The "Etalk" host welcomed her first baby, Grey Alexander Johnston, last month.
Chloe Wilde is reflecting on her first month of motherhood.
The "Etalk" host shared a candid Instagram post on Tuesday, giving fans a raw and honest glimpse into her postpartum journey since welcoming her first child, Grey Alexander Johnston, with longtime partner Ben Johnston last month.
In her post, Wilde included a set of intimate photos including a make-up free mirror selfie where she cradled Grey in one arm and her phone in the other. The Montreal native wore a grey matching sweatsuit that read "mental health" in green block letters with her hair pulled back into a bun. The second picture showcased Grey peacefully laying down in a white polka dot onesie with a blue pacifier.
Alongside the snaps, the Canadian TV host penned a heartfelt note, admitting her "mental health has been better."
Despite expressing the overwhelming love and joy motherhood has brought into her life after four years of trying to have a baby, she also acknowledged the challenges.
"Some days I'm on cloud nine and other days the sadness feels overwhelming," she shared.
"I've tried putting on a brave face but it's time to be honest. I have been struggling, and I'm realizing it's OK to admit that. It doesn't make me weak or ungrateful for our little rainbow baby."
In the comments, fans responded with warm and supportive messages, thanking Wilde for her transparency.
"Being open about it is the best first step," Canadian influencer Sarah Nicole Landry commented, while former "ET Canada" host Cheryl Hickey wrote, "You are not alone. I hope you feel the collective love from other moms in it and moms who have been there. You sharing will help another."
"Thank you so much for being real and raw," another Instagram user wrote. "It's so helpful to see the harsh realities of motherhood because so many new moms feel the same way as you, but society tells us we're supposed to love every second of it. Your transparency is so important! I hope you feel better soon, mama."
"You've got this. It gets better," one fan penned. "And all those moments you feel like you can't, just know he still has the best mom in the world."
"Sharing helps and you are a good mom for acknowledging when you need help," another commented.
"You're not alone in this weird dichotomy and struggle of motherhood," shared Ontario-based artist Aggie Armstrong. "It's OK to admit that after all the wishing and hoping and waiting, there's also the alienation, loneliness and all the overwhelm. There's no shame in feeling that, nor admitting it."
Last month, Wilde announced the arrival of her little one with a carousel of candid snaps from her hospital bed, capturing intimate moments post-childbirth.
In her caption, Wilde introduced her baby, saying, "He is here! Please say hello to Grey Alexander Johnston, our new best friend and the coolest little dude."
"Everyone is doing great. Definitely the most exhausted but also the most blissfully in love," she added. "BRB, off to go stare at him some more."
