It’s looking like this winter is shaping up to be a lot more of the same outdoor COVID-19 activities: Walking, walking and more walking. Keeping warm and comfortable is the not-so-secret ingredient for those socially distanced hangouts this chilly season.
The days of bulky, heavy coats are gone. There’s a packable, machine washable and water-resistance puffer coat taking Amazon Canada by storm — and it’s only $67.

The Amazon Essentials Lightweight Water Resistant Packable Puffer Coat is the online retailer’s latest must-have coat that provides lightweight wear, an extra-long body, a flattering quilted style and elasticized cuffs to avoid any need to roll your sleeves.

If you live in a cool climate, you’ll know that weather can change on the fly, which is why this packable coat is even more convenient. When the sun comes out, simply roll it up into its own carrying bag for later use.
The highly rated puffer jacket comes in sizes extra-small to XX-large, in 11 colours ranging from neutrals like beige and black to vibrant hues like candy apple red and neon yellow.
Why shoppers love it
With an average 4.3-star rating on more than 3,800 reviews, it’s plain to see why this coat is one of Amazon Essentials best purchases for the New Year. According to reviews, buyers may want “to wear it all day.”
“We have had an early snowfall here ... and the jacket was surprisingly great against the wind,” one happy buyer wrote. “It was toasty!”
Another buyer from Vancouver complimented the coat on being “nice quality for the price,” and perfect for their fall and winter climate.
The jacket was perfect for another shopper who normally finds hood sizes too big. They were pleasantly surprised by this one being “not so large or loose that it flops over your forehead.”

However, not everyone was enamoured by this affordable puffer coat.
Although the sizing guide recommends buying true to size, some shoppers complained that the coat was made on the smaller side.
“I always wear a medium, which I ordered ... but not this time,” one buyer wrote. “The coat was so small [and] definitely not what is understood in North America as a medium.”
Another buyer wasn’t impressed by the coat’s packability, which is likely one of its biggest selling points. They wrote: “The packing bag that it came with is a joke. [I] could not even get a third of the coat into the pouch despite a very determined rolling effort to squeeze out the air from the coat.”
The verdict
While some shoppers were let down by inconsistent sizing and the jacket’s packability, the Amazon Essentials puffer coat boasts more than 65% reviews calling it great quality for the price, and the perfect jacket to throw on for running errands.
If shoppers consider the nature of the synthetic material and the price, and buy it with the intention of using for the warmer winter days, this could be exactly what they’re looking for.
