15 Organizations Advocating for Women and Girls Around the World

Every day is a day to celebrate being a woman. More and more, we see our voices amplified around the world and in politics, business, sports, fashion, art, and entertainment—all fields that men have historically dominated.
Still, we have yet to achieve true gender equality, and in many nations around the globe—including here in the United States—women are not only put second, but also repressed, abused, and silenced. Conservative, male-run governments regularly strip women of political power and basic human rights, pushing issues such as reproductive freedom to the forefront of our ongoing fight for equality. Girls have unequal access to quality education, with millions around the world forced into marriages before they turn 18. Additionally, sexual and physical violence against women continues to occur at alarming rates—in 2020, on average, a woman or girl was murdered by a family member every 11 minutes.
Though we still have a ways to go, supporting the tireless work of antiviolence advocates, human-rights representatives, humanitarian nonprofits, and women-led organizations is the first step—especially as we brace for another Donald Trump presidency.

Women Deliver is a global advocate for gender equality and “the health and rights of girls and women, in all their intersecting identities”—helping through political action and financial aid. DONATE HERE
MADRE helps women in marginalized communities reach positions of leadership and have their voices heard. DONATE HERE
UNICEF provides learning environments and tools for girls to receive a quality education no matter their resources. To keep girls safe from harm, the organization has programs that focus on “preventing gender-based violence, ending child marriage, eliminating female genital mutilation, supporting menstrual health management, delivering HIV and AIDS care, meeting girls’ specific psychosocial needs, and more.” UNICEF also strongly champions gender equality by promoting the role of women in different workforces and helping them build up the skills to move forward in their careers. CAMFED is a “pan-African, grassroots-led movement tackling poverty, inequality, and injustice through girls’ education and women’s leadership.” The group helps girls in rural Africa receive an education and work toward a brighter future. DONATE HERE
Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) protects Kenyan women and girls from violence by giving them resources and refuge when needed. The organization also advocates for victims of violence and provides them with psychological support and aid. DONATE HERE
