Blues' Ryan O'Reilly captures Conn Smythe Trophy

St. Louis Blues forward Ryan O’Reilly won the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

O’Reilly recorded a goal and an assist during Wednesday’s 4-1 victory over the Boston Bruins, getting the Blues on the board after Boston dominated the first period of Game 7.

The Blues’ forward matched Wayne Gretzky with his opening goal, becoming the first player since the Great One to score in four consecutive Final games.

O’Reilly finished the playoffs with eight goals and 23 points, leading the Blues through their run.

The 27-year-old has now quietly assembled a trophy case that would make almost all players envious, having previously captured the Selke Trophy and Lady Byng Trophy. He’s been named to two all-star games, and now has lifted the Cup and the Conn Smythe.
