Ryan O'Reilly matches Gretzky with record-tying goal

St. Louis Blues forward Ryan O’Reilly is redefining what it means to be clutch during this year’s Stanley Cup Final, coming up huge during the first period of Wednesday’s Game 7 against the Boston Bruins.

O’Reilly became the third player in NHL history to score his team’s opening goal in four consecutive games during the Stanley Cup Final, matching Sid Smith (1951) and Norm Ullman (1966).

Although no one’s comparing him to the Great One, O’Reilly entered the record books alongside Wayne Gretzky after putting the Blues on the board Wednesday with a goal in his fourth straight game.

Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo added a second goal to close out the first period, one in which the visitors were largely dominated by the Bruins. The Blues went over 15 minutes without a shot before O’Reilly solved the red-hot Tuukka Rask.
