This year has certainly been full of twists and turns, but here's something we doubt anybody had on their 2024 bingo card: Cookie Monster — the Muppet from Sesame Street known for, well, a love of cookies — appeared to be caught speeding in a photo taken by a police camera in Germany last month.

The beloved Muppet was photographed on September 20th going 11 km/h over the limit in an Audi on a drive between Dortmund and Hagen, according to local police.

The "Cookie Monster" in question is not just driving any Audi, though. The car appears to be an Audi RS2 Avant, the first performance wagon and first RS-badged performance car ever made by the brand. The RS2 was a collaboration between Porsche and Audi, one that led to fewer than 3000 total production cars in the mid-1990s. Those numbers make the cult classic wagon a rare sight in any situation, let alone one that involves a friend of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.

While the driver was almost certainly not the original Cookie Monster, the driver wearing the costume was still rendered unidentifiable due to the disguise. Dortmund Police say that the car is registered to is a 57-year-old man from Hagen, and that the registered owner will be receiving a fine in the mail.

If the Muppet-masked driver is the owner of the car, that person may consider a fine for driving 11 km/h over a speed limit to be a reasonable price for their official police photo of a Jim Henson creation driving a rare Audi. After all, according to the police department release, the fee for this particular speeding infraction is just 40 euro. Here's hoping that doesn't take too big a bite out of the driver's cookie budget.
