Driver Runs Red Light Seemingly To Let Ambulance Pass

Letting emergency response vehicles, like an ambulance, get through an intersection is important, but it’s how a driver did this in Fridley, Minnesota that leaves us awestruck. Instead of finding a way to pull off to the side, this person ran a red light, getting T-boned by the cross traffic, creating another emergency instead of helping with the situation.

California police are saying Teslas are almost worthless as cruisers.

We get that it’s frustrating to see people just stay in their lanes and not let first responders through. This kind of behavior is on display in dashcam videos all too often. Slowing down rescuers can sometimes mean the difference between life and death for people.

But performing a dangerous maneuver like this only adds to the problem instead of solving it. While not pulling over can slow down an ambulance or other emergency vehicle some, causing a car crash means authorities now have to deal with yet another situation, slowing down the response to the original emergency far more.

As you can see in the footage, the car next to the red light runner, who was in a left-hand turn bay, pulled over to the left as far as possible to allow space for the ambulance. It’s possible the person who ran the light thought the other car was going through the intersection, and without checking the traffic light, just assumed it was green.

Why would someone do a thing like that? Perhaps they were drowsy or intoxicated? Or the person was distracted on their phone, only seeing the car in the next lane move, automatically responding by pulling into the intersection instead of checking that the light changed and there was no cross traffic.

Either this is a great example of how even if a cop, ambulance, firetruck, etc. is coming you shouldn’t run a red light or it’s an excellent example of why even when sitting at a traffic light one should avoid being distracted.
