A seller claims to own the original 1969 Dodge Charger used in the 2007 Quentin Tarantino film Death Proof, which starred Kurt Russell, Rose McGowan, and Zoe Bell. One might think such a valuable film relic was kept clean as a whistle in a preservation bubble, but it apparently ended up forgotten in storage with junk kept on top of it. Still, it might end up selling for a pretty penny soon.
The Dodge Charger TRX is a mean customized car.
Listed on eBay out of Seal Beach, California, the ’69 Charger looked gritty in the film and still has that appearance, plus some extra wear since. However, like many movie cars, it’s been pillaged for the engine and transmission, plus the interior has been stripped.
But hey, it comes with the full roll cage installed for filming. This Charger probably was not the “hero” vehicle used in closeup and interior shots, but the seller says it wasn’t a stunt vehicle, so it was never jumped or crashed, the frame remaining intact and straight. What’s more, the seller says the car is free of rust.
The seller claims this is indeed the Death Proof Charger, used by Stuntman Mike in the movie to hunt down and kill helpless women. With some acclaimed car chases featuring the classic Mopar muscle car, the film has become a cult classic and this vehicle in turn is an icon.
Considering the big draw to this Dodge is its provenance as a movie car, one would hope the seller can prove that history with solid documentation. That’s not mentioned in the listing, but the seller’s profile show’s they’ve sold other vehicles claimed to have been used in filming Death Proof.
The top bid at the time of writing this article sits at $45,000 even, quite the lofty price considering this is a roller with no interior. Obviously, the Mopar’s status as a film car is driving more aggressive bids and with 17 days left, we expect the figure to climb higher, although how much more is the big question we can’t entirely answer.
