Eugenie Bouchard's perfect response to brutal online comments

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard is no stranger to social media attention - both good and bad.

The 26-year-old's exploits on social media have been well documented, but with the adoration that comes from her legion of fans, Bouchard also cops her fair share of hate from the online trolls.

It's the life of a celebrity and the difficult balancing act that public icons often have to juggle.

However, Bouchard says while some of the negativity she receives online can be "tough", she has learnt that it is a "a waste of time" to dwell on them or allow them to affect her.

“There’s a lot of positive out there,” Bouchard said.

“And I realise that everybody has haters.

“It means you stood up for something in your life, it means you’ve done something in your life.

“Try to take it as a reverse-compliment and just realise it’s someone who maybe has their own issues or is mean or negative and you shouldn’t worry about someone like that.

“You shouldn’t worry about their opinion, so I really try to take a step back from it and not take it personally.”

A constant criticism that Bouchard faces is around the extent of her activity on social media and whether that time and energy could be better spent on her tennis game.

The Canadian says it's merely a generational shift towards social media, that explains her online footprint.

“It’s only natural for someone my age to be active on social media. Why it is such a big deal?

“I think the most important thing is to not hate back. To accept it for what it is and understand that it’s more of a reflection of them and how they’re feeling and not that you’re a horrible person. It’s hard because there’s so much negativity out there.”

Bouchard takes search for love to dating apps

In a sign that even the biggest celebrities aren’t immune to having to resort to dating apps, Bouchard recently revealed she’s taken to Bumble to find love.

She’s dated fellow sporting stars, random fans and even been linked to Aussie bad boy Nick Kyrgios.

But nothing seems to stick for the Canadian, as she reminded us recently when she tweeted: “Quarantine would be a lot more fun with a boyfriend.”

But now it seems the former World No.5 has taken her search for love to dating app Bumble.

Bouchard posted two photos of herself on social media on Wednesday, one of which was a screenshot of her dating profile.

“What i look like dating in quarantine on @bumble_canada vs what my profile looks like,” she wrote.

Last week, Bouchard took part in a ‘virtual date’ with American entrepreneur Bob Menery, where she was grilled on her love life.

Menery scored the online date with Bouchard after pledging to donate $US40,000 to charity.

He didn’t hold back, asking Bouchard about her past relationships, whether she’s been in love and if she wants to have kids or not.

Bouchard also revealed details of her worst date, before confirming several days later than a second date with Menery - in person - is on the cards.

“Calm down guys! You can’t act too eager,” she told CNN Sport’s Amanda Davies in an Instagram Live chat.

“You have to play it cool. “Maybe I’ll say I’m busy, give it say another week, even though we have nothing to do.”

“I agreed to a live date so when things are possible and somehow our schedules overlap, we will go on a second date, but a first real date. We’ll see where that goes.”
