Tiger Woods' camp slams 'unauthorised and salacious' documentary

The agent of Tiger Woods has slammed a new documentary that's been released about the controversial life of the golfing superstar.

Part one of HBO’s two-part documentary 'Tiger' has just aired and unsurprisingly, it's already generated plenty of talking points.

Based off a biography written about the golfing legend in 2018, the documentary delves into many different parts of Woods' complicated life - from his relationship with his late father Earl, his well-documented affairs and subsequent marriage breakdown, to the incredible career turnaround that culminated in a 15th major title at the 2019 Masters.

However, the golfer's agent Mark Steinberg has slammed the documentary as just another “unauthorised and salacious” take on Woods' life.

“Just like the book it is based off of, the upcoming HBO documentary is just another unauthorised and salacious outsider attempt to paint an incomplete portrait of one of the greatest athletes of all time," he told Golf Digest.

One of the authors of the autobiography, Armen Keteyian, is also an executive producer of the documentary, which is based around interviews with people once close to the golfer, who have since fallen out with Woods.

Among those interviewed were the American's former caddie Steve Williams and one of his many mistresses Rachel Uchitel - labelled by the makers of the documentary as the “woman at the centre of the sex scandal that forever altered Tiger’s world”.

Uchitel confessed recently that her life has been a "living hell" ever since Woods infamous infidelity was exposed and her role in the sordid scandal was revealed.

The former nightclub hostess has finally opened up in detail about her affair with Woods during publicity events for the documentary, insisting she needed to set the record straight after more than 10 years of staying silent.

“I have been silent for over a decade now, and I felt that it was really important to me to speak only once in my life, because I have spent all these years letting people think what they want to think and say what they want to say," Uchitel told Extra.

“I needed to take the shackles off and be able tell my story for me. I have spent years under the shame of what’s been going on.

“One moment doesn’t define your life … And I don’t like to be branded as a mistress. I don’t like to be branded as a homewrecker — that’s not who I am. I’m a 45-year-old woman. I made one wrong turn 10 years ago.

“I didn’t throw somebody down the stairs. I didn’t kill someone. I made a mistake. Everybody makes mistakes."

Affair filled Uchitel with regret

Uchitel said the affair with Woods, which resulted in his former wife Elin Nordigren divorcing the golfer, left her filled will embarrassment and regret.

However, she insists that the relationship felt special at the time and says it was never her intention to deliberately break up Woods' family life.

“One moment doesn’t define your life … And I don’t like to be branded as a mistress,” Uchitel said.

“I don’t like to be branded as a home-wrecker — that’s not who I am.

“I’m a 45-year-old woman. I made one wrong turn 10 years ago … I didn’t throw somebody down the stairs. I didn’t kill someone. I made a mistake. Everybody makes mistakes.

“I wanted people to see what really happened. I was not a mistress, and I was in a real relationship, and I want people to leave me alone about it. I made a bad decision.

“I regret it, and I’m embarrassed about it and … my apology is to two people, not the world, two people.”

Part two of the HBO documentary is set to air to next week.
