Will Pucovski is set to line-up for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield after recovering from his latest blow to the head. Pucovski was looking strong during a Victoria second XI clash against South Australia in January when he was hit on the helmet from a David Grant bouncer in the clash against South Australia.

The 25-year-old was on 42 runs before the incident, but reacted in pain after the scare. The opener appeared fine and initially decided to stay out in the middle having been cleared as he managed to bat for another over.

However, he then signalled to his team back in the pavilion and eventually was forced to retire after the blow. Pucovski has a history of concussions and there was immediate concern over his wellbeing.

He didn't take part in the match again, but in good news, he was able to train in the nets after the knock. And it appears the Victorian has put the setback behind him having been selected for the Victorian squad to take on the Blues at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday.

"Unfortunately our white-ball campaign came to an end on Wednesday but we now turn our attention to putting together a strong Shield performance at the SCG and put ourselves in the running to make the Shield final," Cricket Victoria's head of male cricket David Hussey said. "It is fantastic to welcome back our captain in Will Sutherland for the Shield after his international debut, while it is also great to have Will Pucovski back in the squad."

Pucvoski has been in steady form for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield campaign with a top score of 65 across the three domestic games. He will be looking to make his mark at the top of the order for Victoria this weekend. Victoria currently sit second on the table and have a chance to secure a home final with three matches remaining.

The Victorian has suffered 11 concussions throughout his short career. Pucovski scored 61 on his national debut at the Sydney Cricket Ground against India in 2021, but hasn't featured for the national team since.

Will Pucovski signs for County Cricket

While the Victorian has more Sheffield Shield games left in him this season, it also appears the 25-year-old is ready to get as much cricket into his schedule as possible after signing with the Foxes in the top county cricket competition. He will join Peter Handscomb in the Foxes XI having spoken to his Victorian teammate about the opportunity.

“Talking to Pete, he couldn’t speak more highly about the environment and (the) club’s group of players and staff,” Pucovski said in a statement after the announcement. “I can’t wait to get over there and be part of a successful start to the season.”
