Pat Cummins is the toast of social media after a sarcastic response to a fan's comment about his wife Becky. The Australian cricket captain took to social media on Wednesday to pay tribute to his wife on Valentine's Day.

Cummins posted two photos of Becky, including one of the couple holding surfboards. He wrote in the caption: “Super-mum, wife, my valentine and apparently a pro-surfer too. Happy Valentine’s Becky Cummins."

The post was met with a flood of comments from fans, with one bizarrely reading: "I am Indian I love you your wife (sic)." Cummins then responded to the comment: "I'll pass it onto her!"

Cummins' reply had followers in a frenzy, with one person writing: "That's a savage reply." Another person commented, "I love his simplicity", while a third sarcastically wrote: "What a gentleman he is."

Pat Cummins' phenomenal year as Australian cricket captain

Pat and Becky tied the knot in 2022 and welcomed son Albie together the year before. Becky has been a constant support by her husband's side as he ascended to the Australian captaincy and enjoyed a brilliant year in 2023.

Cummins helped Australia retain the Ashes on English soil in July, before they won the World Test Championship in the final against India not long after. He then captained the side to glory at the ODI World Cup in November, with the Aussies once again beating India in the decider.

As well as a stellar year with the ball, Cummins produced a number of crucial knocks with the bat in 2023. He combined with Nathan Lyon to steer Australia to victory in the second Ashes Test while eight wickets down, and hung around when Glenn Maxwell blasted a match-winning and record-breaking double century against Afghanistan at the World Cup.

Throughout it all, Becky and Albie have kept him grounded. "The first couple of times I met Becky, I told her I was a uni student because, technically, I was. I left out the cricket part," he previously told The Age.

"Then one day, a few weeks after we started dating, she walked past a KFC in the city, and on the front was me wearing a bucket hat." She reckons she did a double take and was like, 'Hang on, that's Pat'."

Will Pat Cummins be captain for T20 World Cup?

After sweeping Pakistan 3-0 in the recent Test summer, the Aussies had to settle for a 1-1 split with the West Indies. They then beat the Windies in ODI and T20 series that followed, and will head to New Zealand this month for more T20s and Tests.

The big event on the horizon for Cummins this year is the T20 World Cup, although it looks like he might not be captain in the shortest format of the game. The Aussies haven't had a full-time skipper for the T20 side since Aaron Finch relinquished the role last year.

Matthew Wade filled the role during a five-match series against India last year, before Mitch Marsh took the reigns against the West Indies. And it looks like Marsh will once again get the nod for the World Cup in the United States and Caribbean.

"We'll see," Marsh said this week when asked whether he'd like to keep the captaincy for the World Cup. "It's a real privilege to lead this team. It's a huge honour. The playing group and coaching staff we've got at the moment make the job a lot easier."
