Social media star Paige Spiranac has hit out at the upcoming boxing showdown between undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather and YouTube star Logan Paul.

The American boxing great, 50-0 in his professional career, will come out of retirement to fight the YouTube-turned-boxing star Paul in February, 2021.

Mayweather said he has "never shied away" from doing things differently after the announcement of the exhibition bout this week.

One person who's less than enthused about the fight is Instagram star Spiranac, who described it as "insane" and an obvious "money grab".

Speaking on her Playing-A-Round with Paige podcast, the 27-year-old also revealed why she "hates" Mayweather's opponent.

"It’s a money grab, there is going to be so much money thrown for that fight,” Spiranac said.

"It’s insane that people actually want to see this happening.

"It’s insane to see someone with a YouTube following or social following can make this happen.

"It just shows how powerful that young demographic that everyone is reaching out to get now and the fact that people are talking about this is mind blowing to me."

Paul slammed over 2018 video

Spiranac has a chequered history with Paul after criticising the Youtube star for a 2018 video he filmed with friends, who were all laughing after finding a dead body in Japan's forest of Aokigahara - a place notorious for suicides.

The social media starlet claims she received death threats from Paul's fans after hitting out at the Youtube icon while giving an anti-bullying talk at an American school.

“It was a huge controversy and I was asked what I thought about it," Spiranac said.

“I said, ‘If you have a large following of a younger viewing audience you have to be careful with the content that you put out there’.

“And I think he should have been punished more by YouTube or his sponsors or there needed to be some form of consequence bigger than what he got.

“And I ended up receiving death threats from all of these kids in that high school, that they were defending Logan Paul and so ever since then I have hated him.

“Because if that’s the fan base he has, where if you criticise him you are literally going to have people attack you, not just silly stupid schoolboy bullying but horrible, horrible things, I just don’t think they are really good people.”

Youtube star sorry for 2018 incident

Paul said he was "ashamed" about the incident and admitted he made a big mistake after apologising for the video in 2018.

"I’ve made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgment and I don’t expect to be forgiven. I’m simply here to apologise," Paul said at the time.

"I’ve made a huge mistake. I don’t expect to be forgiven … I’m ashamed of myself. I am disappointed."

Paul and Mayweather are set to go head-to-head on February 20 next year in a Pay-Per-View bout on Fanmio Boxing, according to a link shared by the American boxing great on Twitter.

The fight has been widely panned on social media, considering the stature of the two in the sport.

Mayweather is one of the greatest of all time, while Paul has one professional fight under his belt, though he fell to fellow YouTuber KSI via a split decision in a six-round fight last November at the Staples Centre.
