Key development in blockbuster Aussie boxing showdown

Australian boxers Jeff Horn and Tim Tsyzu have agreed on a date for their middleweight showdown.

The fight between son of legendary Aussie boxer Kostya Tszyu and former champ Horn is one of the most highly anticipated bouts in recent Australian boxing history.

Five venues are in the running to host the blockbuster on April 22, with the winner expected to land a world title shot.

Brisbane Exhibition Centre, Sydney's Bankwest Stadium, Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Perth's RAC Arena and Country Bank Stadium in Townsville have all been mentioned as destinations for the bout.

Queenslander Horn (20-2-1) avenged his previous defeat to Michael Zerafa with a thrilling victory over his countryman in December.

Tsyzu, unbeaten in 15 professional fights, also fought in December, stopping Jack Brubaker in the fourth round.

Horn has agreed to drop his rematch clause, while Tsyzu has relented on his original demands for a 12-round bout.

"I pretty much got what I wanted with this one," Horn told 2GB.

"I was very adamant I wanted 10 rounds especially with the dates they were talking in April. I just thought it made sense.

"Why push myself too hard when it could only be a 10-round fight and I could get ready for it a lot easier?"

Horn says all venues are being discussed, but the chances of the fight being staged in Brisbane are strong.

Boxing champ arrested over disturbing video

Lightweight boxing champion Gervonta Davis has turned himself into police after a video went viral that showed the fighter assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Davis attended a charity basketball game on Saturday in Miami over Super Bowl weekend and was seen on camera grabbing a woman by the neck.

The incident - captured on smart phone and uploaded to Twitter - has been viewed more than seven million times.

The footage showed Davis grabbing a woman by the throat, yanking her from her seat and forcefully escorting her out as witnesses looked on in shock.

The woman was later identified as Andretta Smothers, the mother of Davis’ daughter.

A report on Tuesday indicated Davis turned himself into to Coral Gables, Florida, police, where he was arrested on charges of simple battery domestic violence.

Davis turned himself in voluntarily and is being processed. The investigation is ongoing.

The 25-year-old acknowledged the incident in a post on Instagram. Via WBAL in Baltimore, where Davis is from:

"I never once hit her. Yeah, I was aggressive and told her 'Come on'…That's the mother of my child. I would never hurt her other than that."

Davis is currently 23-0 and currently owns the WBA (regular) lightweight title after previously competing at super featherweight.

He is promoted by Floyd Mayweather, who has called him a potential successor and a future household name.
