‘ON NOTICE’: Stunning new legal threat in Israel Folau saga
Homosexuality is illegal in the Maldives and all throughout the Indian Ocean islands under Shariah Law.
But Harper decided to stand up for the rights of herself and millions of people around the world by uploading the romantic photo to social media.
“Illegal to be gay in the Maldives and other Muslim countries still in this day and age is mental,” Harper wrote on Twitter.
“Anyways this is our thought.”
Hunter took down the photo after her family expressed their concerns about potential repercussions whole she was still in the Maldives.
However she re-uploaded it once she was safe and sound back in the UK.
The penalty for homosexuality in the Maldives is a maximum of eight years in prison.
Imagine having the privilege to love and be loved as you are, in the Maldives. https://t.co/Q5GwObHAem

Last year she became the first female boxer from the North England area of Tyneside to become a pro since the 1990s.
“How far I’ve come in such a short space of time is quite incredible and I’ve learned so much,” she said in an interview last year.
“It’s been great and boxing really gave me purpose in life and got me out of a bad situation.”
She also spent time in the Newcastle United football academy while a teenager.
