Coles shopper handed $50 in random checkout prompt: 'Is this common?'
Coles is giving away $4.1 million in prizes as part of its latest Winter of Sports giveaway.
A Coles shopper was pleasantly surprised after scoring their grocery shop half-price at the checkout. The supermarket customer had been shopping in-store when they found out they had received $50 off their shop.
“Is this a common thing at Coles? My total was only around $100 anyway so I’m surprised they took off $50? Either way I’m a happy camper,” they shared online, along with a picture of the win.
The discount was part of Coles' latest Winter of Sports promotion, which is running for customers who shop in-store or online and scan their Flybuys card. The supermarket giant said there were more than $4.1 million in prizes up for grabs, including “instant-win prizes” of between $10 to $100 off your shop.

“With 105,000 instant-win prizes up for the taking, lucky customers will have the option to apply the saving immediately or store it on their Flybuys account for future in-store shops up until Saturday 9 November,” a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Finance.
Customers can also go in the draw to win daily prizes like a year’s worth of groceries valued at $13,500, $500 Coles gift cards, 10,000 Flybuys points, and items like a television, pizza oven and air fryer.
Other shoppers shared they had also scored money off their grocery shops through the promotion, while others said they hadn’t been as lucky.

The average Aussie household spent $191 per week on groceries in April, or $9,932 per year.
