Coles has launched a new promotion offering customers more than $4.1 million in prizes, including “instant” wins in-store. The Winter of Sports giveaway kicked off on Tuesday, July 23, and will run until September 10.

Shoppers who spend more than $20 or more in-store and scan their registered Flybuys card will find out if they’ve scored an instant win. Starting at $10 vouchers, customers have the chance to win up to $100 off.

“With 105,000 instant-win prizes up for the taking, lucky customers will have the option to apply the saving immediately or store it on their Flybuys account for future in-store shops up until Monday 9 November,” a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Finance.

Following the same process, you also earn a gold-winning entry into the daily prize draw; a year’s worth of groceries valued at $13,500.

However, if you spend $60 you will earn three entries.

“The daily prizes don’t stop there with an all-star sports fan pack worth $7,300 up for grabs every day, including a television and sound bar, BBQ, bar fridge, pizza oven, air fryer, coffee machine, a Kayo Basic 12-month subscription, a $500 Coles Gift Card and 10,000 Flybuys points,” Coles said.

This comes as Coles shoppers have expressed confusion after the Flybuys loyalty program was changed. Shoppers are now prompted to take a $10 voucher after accumulating 2,000 Flybuys points. Be warned, it will eat into the total value you will earn Flybuys at.

Finder's Flybuys expert Angus Kidman told Yahoo Finance shoppers were better off ignoring the prompt, which you can opt out of on your Flybuys online account.

"Your best bet is converting them into Velocity Frequent Flyer Points. If you do that, typically, you can get more value than you’ll get from the standard $10 off,” he said.

Each week, for the next nine weeks, the following number of vouchers will be available nationally:

• 6,000 x $10 Off Coles shop

• 4,500 x $20 Off Coles shop

• 3,000 x $50 Off Coles shop

• 1,500 x $100 Off Coles shop

Customers can receive a bonus entry for the daily prizes with the purchase of over 1,500 products.

These include but aren’t limited to:

  • Finish, Head & Shoulders

  • Fancy Feast

  • Darrell Lea

  • Coles Made Easy

  • Coles Kitchen

  • Coles Stone Baked by Laurent breads

  • Bananas

  • Oranges

  • Mushrooms

  • Coles brand seafood from the meat department

You can check the list of qualifying purchases here.

Shoppers can get multiple bonus entries, but there is a limit of one entry per participating brand per transaction. So you could get two products in one transaction and get two entries.

“A limit of one bonus entry per nominated Coles fresh produce product per transaction applies,” Coles said.

The offer comes at a time when Australians are struggling to cover even their basic expenses.

Research from Finder found grocery bills were a major financial stressor for 40 per cent of Aussies — equivalent to 3.7 million households. This figure has more than doubled over the past four years.

The average Aussie household spent $191 per week on average on groceries in April, or $9,932 per year.
