Apple offers free repairs for this iPhone problem
Owners of iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pros that don’t emit sounds during calls are able to have their device fixed for free, Apple has said.
A “very small percentage” of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices have a ‘no sound’ issue due to a failed component in the receiver, the tech giant said in a statement.
“If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the receiver when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service,” Apple said.

If this is a problem you’re having, you can get it fixed at Apple stores or Apple-authorised service providers for free.
The device needs to have been manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.
How to get it fixed
Apple will have to examine your iPhone first to verify it’s eligible for the program.
There are three ways to get your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro serviced:
Find an Apple Authorised Service Provider;
Make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store; or
Contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.
Note, however, that Apple stores will have different opening hours and restrictions depending on where the store is located.
For instance, the Apple store in Adelaide, which is not in lockdown, allows for walk-ins, though masks and physical distancing is encouraged, while stores across locked-in NSW do not permit walk-in customers at all.
Additionally, if your device wasn’t purchased in Australia, it may not be repaired here.
This free-of-charge repair program for affected phones will last for two years after the sale of the device.
iPhone owners: What else you need to know
If you have a different issue with your iPhone, you can check if it’s covered under any of Apple’s Service Programs.
If your iPhone needs repairing, you can check this Apple webpage to see what can be done.
All Australians get a free two-year warranty on their Apple products, according to Handle My Complaint.
“You are entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure,” Apple states on its Australian Consumer Law page.
However, accidental damage – like a cracked screen because you dropped it – isn’t covered under warranty, but is covered under AppleCare+, though you will have to pay a service fee.
