Zara Tindall 'more adventurous' than Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with baby name choice

Zara Tindall has explained how she and her husband Mike agreed on the baby name, Lena, for their newborn daughter.

The Queen‘s granddaughter recently announced that they had chosen to name their youngest daughter, Lena Elizabeth.

But in an interview with Hello!, Zara admitted that she was able to be more creative with their choice than her cousin Prince William.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who christened their 11-week-old son, at St James’ palace yesterday, opted for the moniker Louis, but Zara revealed that she could be somewhat “more adventurous” than that of her cousin.

“We were able to be more adventurous than say, William,” she told the publication before going on to confirm how the name should be pronounced.

“It’s pronounced Lay-na. We chose it because it’s a name we both like. It’s also similar to Mia’s because it’s distinct, not shortened from another name.”

Zara, gave birth to the baby, a younger sister to four-year-old Mia Grace, on 18 June at Stroud Maternity Unit weighing 9lbs and 3oz.

Like the moniker chosen for their eldest daughter, Zara and Mike chose a traditional name with a modern slant.

“Zara is a Royal with a modern twist and her choice for her new daughter perfectly reflects this,” explains ChannelMum.com baby names expert SJ ‎Ljungstrom.

“Just like for first daughter Mia Grace, Zara and husband Mike Tindall have chosen an contemporary moniker for the baby’s first name and a heritage counterweight for the second name.”

The name reveal followed some controversy over the newborn’s official birth announcement.

Last week, the Palace confirmed the happy news via a statement released on Twitter, but some fans weren’t happy about the language used in the announcement, with some accusing it of being out-dated and ‘sexist’.

“Mrs Michael Tindall was safely delivered of a baby girl on 18th June, at Stroud Maternity Unit,” the statement read.

“Mr Tindall was present at the birth. The weight of the baby was 9lbs 3oz.”

The birth of little Lena follows that of Prince Louis, who was born back in April, the third child for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Despite the Duke and Duchess being somewhat restricted in terms of creativity for their name choice, Prince Louis is predicted to have a huge impact on baby names like that of his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
