'You feel like your body has failed you': Giovanna Fletcher opens up about her miscarriage
She regularly opens up about the realities of being a parent, but now Giovanna Fletcher has revealed that she suffered a miscarriage during her first pregnancy.
The 32-year-old, who is now mum to Buzz, three and Buddy, one, made the tragic revelation while she was promoting her new book, Happy Mum, Happy Baby.
Speaking on BUILD, a live interview series, the author who is married to musician Tom Fletcher spoke about being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and how she fell quickly after taking fertility drugs metformin and clomid.
“I fell pregnant very quickly and I had this thing in my head that it was just too easy,” she said. “After being worried for so long that it wouldn’t be easy it just happened.”
“And then I miscarried not long after that and I think part of me felt that would happen, because I felt that it was too easy,” she continued.
“Because I felt that I hadn’t earned it. If that didn’t happen I wouldn’t have Buzz and Buzz will forever be my silver lining,” she said about her sons.

The vlogger went on to say that at the time she felt the need to keep quiet about what she was going through because there’s a stigma attached to people talking about miscarriage.
“When it comes to miscarriage I think we’re all too scared to say something. I felt like I could never say anything to friends because people feel like it’s contagious,” she explained.
“It’s a really rubbish thing that happens and it happens to so many people. All you really want in that moment is a hug. You feel like your body has failed you and that’s your first experience as a mother.”
Giovanna, who has been married to McFly’s Tom Fletcher since 2012, decided to talk about her miscarriage for the first time in her book to try and break down some of the silence surrounding the topic and offer comfort to others going through a similar experience.
Their love is everything! All else is nonsense. ????????❤️ xx

In her book, the blogger also opens up about motherhood and how her experiences gave her a whole new appreciation for her body.
“When I was pregnant I experienced a newfound appreciation for the body I’d spent years hating,” she said. “From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I stopped anything that might have been the slightest bit challenging as I’d miscarried during my first pregnancy and was worried it would happen again.”
Giovanna isn’t the first one to open up about her personal experience of losing a baby. Earlier this month Jools Oliver also revealed she had suffered a miscarriage in an earlier pregnancy.
The wife of TV chef, Jamie Oliver, did not elaborate on when the tragic loss occurred but opened up about the fact that it made it difficult for her to enjoy the early stages of her subsequent pregnancies.
“I had a miscarriage at three months, which makes you so worried once you are pregnant again – it makes it impossible to enjoy the early stages of pregnancy,” the mum-of-five said.
