This woman's story of why she's grateful for her miscarriage will stay with you
It’s one of the few remaining taboo subjects in society, and for any number of reasons, people are still hesitant to talk about miscarriages.
Whether it’s because we don’t know how to react, what the right response is or we just don’t like uncomfortable situations, miscarriages are avoided as a conversation topic unless it’s truly necessary.
Which is why it’s so encouraging to see a woman speak openly about her experience – and even more so, because somehow she has turned it into a positive one.
Two weeks after Shelly Mettling realised she was pregnant, she sadly lost her baby. She went through all of the normal emotions – sadness, anger, frustration and more, before realising something important.
“I’m grateful that I got to experience the bond that a woman feels the instant she finds out she is growing a little human in her belly” Shelly wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post.
“I’m grateful I got to feel the love I was capable of feeling/giving to someone that I had never even met!
“I’m grateful for the fact that God gave me this experience to test my strength!” she continued.
Shelly also highlighted the fact that many people think as soon as soon as the initial distress has passed, so will the pain.
In another post she wrote: “[People say] ‘You’ve Lost your Baby’ The hard part is over, right? WRONG!
“I’m about to get raw & real… not because I feel comfortable to but because I think it’s important for all the other woman (the 1/4) to hear.
“We’ve endured one of the most emotionally and sometimes physically painful thing we could ever endure as a female and although it’s “Over” it’s NEVER REALLY Over!”
Shelly’s determination to carry on and not let anything get her down is something we should all remember. Because, as she puts it: “I am ok, I am happy, and I’m still super MF high on life because damnit I only get one and I’m not gunna waste it Not even for a Second!!! [sic]”
