In a humorous TikTok video, a woman shares her story of "unknowingly" moving to Germany at the age of 18. The tale, which spans a decade of her life, began when she met her now-husband, who was in the army and stationed in Germany.

“When I was 18 I met a boy, got pregnant, and married pretty fast,” she wrote in the now-viral TikTok. Her husband was due to return to his post shortly after their wedding. Without hesitation, she packed a bag and joined him on what she believed would be a short trip.

As the couple arrived in Germany, they settled into a fully furnished apartment. “I thought ‘Oh, this is cosy…got everything I need for my stay here!' ” she remembered thinking.

The newlyweds spent their first days exploring Germany and shopping for household items — activities that didn’t raise any flags for the young bride. The confusion began to set in when her husband donned his uniform and headed to work. “I thought it was a bit rude. I’d come over for a holiday and he’s gone off to work!” she recalled.

Left alone in a foreign country, the woman was at a loss. “I twiddled my thumbs all day, in this flat — didn’t dare go for a walk out because I had no idea how to use the money,” she admitted. As the days turned into weeks, the reality of her situation remained ambiguous.

It wasn’t until she received a phone call from her father that the doubts began to creep in. “My dad rings me and says, ‘When are you planning on coming home?’ ” to which she responded, “I don’t really know to be honest. This holiday feels a little like it’s not a holiday.”

The woman decides to finally confront her husband about their return home. His reaction was one of disbelief and confusion. “You do realize this is our home, we live here, you live here, we moved here, this isn’t a holiday!” he explained to her.

At that moment, she realizes the situation at hand. She called her dad back to tell him, “Dad, sorry. I didn’t realize it’s not a holiday. I live here now.”

The woman’s misunderstanding turned into a decade-long experience. She concluded her video, stating, “And that’s how I unknowingly moved to Germany and lived there for 10 years altogether.”

Since the video went viral, many users noted how laid back her boyfriend probably thought she was. “He was probably thinking you were the most laid back girl ever just packing a bag and whisking away,” one TikTok user wrote. Another joked, “So in love and didn’t realize it. I’d blindly follow my hubby too.”
