Rochelle Humes has framed her baby's umbilical cord - and not everyone thinks that's OK
When a new baby arrives many parents like to mark the occasion by holding onto a special keepsake. First little hat, first booties, hospital nametag…But Rochelle Humes has chosen something a little bit more unusual to celebrate the arrival of her second daughter by opting to have her newborn’s umbilical cord turned into art work and framed.
The 27-year-old singer and TV presenter who welcomed her second daughter, Valentina Raine with husband Marvin Humes last week, took to Instagram to share an image of her baby girl’s dehydrated umbilical cord arranged into the word ‘love’ alongside a pot of placenta capsules.
“After being very curious I took the plunge, so excited to feel the benefits…” she captioned the post.
According to some experts placenta pills are said to aid recovery after birth, and provide post-birth nutrients to new mums. It’s a practice that has been tried by other celebrity mums including Coleen Rooney, Kim Kardashian and January Jones.

But it wasn’t the placenta pills that set Instagram into a complete spin, but the unusual umbilical cord artwork, which seemed to shock some users.
“That is absolutely disgusting,” one person wrote.
“Breast milk is one thing… but this is gross lol,” added another
“The picture is awful looks like an old snake skin,” another user commented.
But not everyone was against the idea and some people were quick to step in and defend Rochelle’s right to mark her baby’s arrival in whatever way she decides.
“I’m really confused, what is all the fuss about.? Can Rochelle not do what she wants.? I personally wouldn’t be using my placenta but I do love this pic, giving life to someone is amazing and it should be celebrated. Stop with the negative comments people,” one woman wrote.
“I absolutely love this. So special,” added another.
“I think that’s a good idea plus the umbilical cord spells love all these horrible comments! If she wants to do that it’s her choice! Ignore the negativity and think positivity,” another fan commented.

The popularity of preserving your baby’s umbilical cord as artwork has been on the rise of late.
A quick scroll of the hashtag #umbilicalcordkeepsake reveals a whole plethora of creative ways parents are preserving their babies cords.
While it might not be for everyone, parents have the right to celebrate their baby’s birth in whatever way they see fit.
Hopefully Rochelle and Marvin will be way too busy with their new baby and big sister Alaia-Mai to pay any attention to the haters.
Congratulations guys!
