The Voice UK fans ‘disappointed' over ‘absurd’ new finale format
The Voice UK came to a close this weekend with an show-stopping series finale, but some fans were left disappointed with how things concluded on the talent competition. After the four finalists; Ava, Billy & Louis, Deb-Ora, and Storra performed for one final time, the studio were then tasked with voting for a winner.
But in previous years, the viewers at home were given the opportunity to vote for the winner, something they couldn't do this year due to the show being pre-recorded. The filming kicked off in February 2024 and finished in June, despite airing this autumn.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, many fans shared their frustration over not being able to vote. "I think the public should vote on The Voice UK, not the audience," said one fan. Another shared: "So the Voice UK final wasn’t live and a studio vote. Isn’t the point of the last few weeks you get to know the acts to help with the vote. Odd ITV couldn’t figure out a way to make this an audience vote with even the end being live or multiple endings."
A third wrote online: “It really diminishes the show by not having a public vote.” The show being pre-recorded wasn't the only twist this year, as they also had the first judging duo when McFly's Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones bagged themselves a joint chair alongside Will.I.Am, LeAnne Rimes and Tom Jones.
Tom and Danny acted as one and agreed on which singers they wanted to coach which has at times been tough business. “We had it in our contract that any arguments wouldn’t be aired,” joked Danny before the show aired, who has previously starred in The Voice Kids.
“There was one time when Danny grabbed my hand and slammed it on the buzzer,” confessed Tom. “I was undecided but Danny had already made up his mind.”
The music stars rocketed to fame in 2003 when they, along with bandmates Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter formed McFly. When asked who they couldn’t share a seat with, both Danny and Tom had the same answer.
“Harry,” confirmed Tom. “He’d dominate, he’d press it too quickly.” “He’d had sweets everywhere. And he’d be spilling stuff everywhere.” added Danny. "We've not actually had time on our own without the other boys!"
And clearly the double whammy paid off, as it was Tom and Danny's act, Ava, who impressed the judges and the studio audience and was crowned the winner of The Voice UK 2024.
