Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is coming back in 2024: Here's how you can watch it

The Victoria's Secret Angels are dusting off their wings as the brand has announced its show will return after a five-year hiatus.

In a video posted on Instagram to their 76 million followers back in May, the brand stated the show is coming back. Iconic supermodel and longtime Angel, Candice Swanepoel, was seen in the video donning a simple black tee with ‘WE ARE BACK’ on the back of it, while texting the ‘VS Squad.’

Whilst we are optimistic and expect to see big changes in the show following years of rebranding, one thing we know we’re guaranteed is some of the brand's iconic angels. "It feels extremely exciting. I’ve been working with VS for 10 years now, so to see the show return is a very special moment for me,” said Taylor Hill who features in the 2024 show. The supermodel confirmed that she was most looking forward to “Being back on the runway and the wings! It’s so nostalgic and it was so much fun walking in the show. I’m excited for that rush of adrenaline that comes with being on that runway.”

The Evolution of Victoria's Secret - What’s Changed:

The fashion industry has come a long way since the show's debut in 1995. What worked for the brand in the late nineties and early noughties is definitely not going to work this time around. The once-glamorous spectacle that was the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show hit pause back in 2019, and for good reason. The show, once a major pop culture event, began facing intense criticism for its lack of diversity and outdated beauty standards. The show was previously an annual event, but was cancelled following controversies surrounding the inclusivity of the models on the runway.

Ed Razek, the Fashion Show’s long-term Chief Marketing officer, left in 2019 following backlash after he refused to hire plus-sized and transgender models. With changing societal attitudes toward body image and inclusivity, the brand was falling out of step with the times. Viewers were asking for more representation and more meaningful storytelling, rather than just seeing a parade of unattainable ideals. The brand has committed itself to a new image and in a recent statement said, "We’ve centred ourselves around what our customer wants and needs – making sure that they are proud to shop at Victoria’s Secret. We have moved from promoting an exclusionary view of what’s sexy, to celebrating all women throughout every phase of their lives. We will continue this work and look to be an industry leader in retail innovation, fashion, sustainability, and continuous ingenuity—getting to the heart of what our diverse customer base wants."

Fast forward to today, and we feel this time around we’re going to see a big change in the Victoria's Secret runway. In a statement the brand said "We’ve read the comments and heard you" and that the show will "reflect who we are today." The brand clearly realised that it needed to reinvent itself to stay relevant in a world that embraces all shapes, sizes, and identities. The upcoming show will be very conscious of reflecting this change, with a focus on inclusivity and empowerment. Supermodel Taylor Hill who will feature in the 2024 show said of the upcoming changes, "My hope is that girls are able to see themselves being represented and feel like they are a part of the VS family.”

That being said, the show will still feature "everything you know and love—the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more." In a big win for animal rights, Victoria's Secret has officially vowed to use only faux feathers in its 2024 fashion shows. After months of talks with PETA, the brand is taking a stand against the cruel treatment of birds that's often hidden behind the glitz and glamour of the runway.

According to Totally Vegan Buzz, in the past Victoria’s Secret used up to 620,000 feathers from chickens, pheasants, and ostriches in a single show—many coming from birds subjected to severe cruelty. PETA’s Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman celebrated the move, saying, “PETA is tickled PINK that the return of Victoria’s Secret’s iconic fashion show will reflect modern values by ditching cruel and archaic feathers to create dazzling designs that no bird died for.” She added, “Fashion is all about creativity and innovation, and Victoria’s Secret is setting a fabulous example for other designers to follow.” To mark this shift, PETA sent the company a vegan cake topped with faux-feather decorations, symbolising the sweet success of the decision.

The brand is moving beyond just showcasing supermodels in extravagant lingerie; it’s embracing a more modern, empowering message. Expect a fresh perspective, with a mix of fashion, storytelling, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into the creative process. The brand promises to focus on a broader range of body types and personalities, making it more relatable for today’s audience.

The return of this show is big news for fashion lovers everywhere, but it’s also another chance for the brand to reinvent itself. "It’s the big comeback!," said Taylor Hill, "There’s a ton of excitement surrounding that—we all love a good comeback story."

The Models:

Victoria's Secret has been drip feeding their line-up since the announcement in May 2024, and we now know that Tyra Banks, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Hill and of course Candice Swanepoel will be walking. "To go back to the show, my imagination already starts going wild with what it could be," Candice told fans in a video on the brand's website, "It's been a long time so I'm excited."

Likewise Taylor Hill explained, “It means a lot to me. I grew up watching it and I also got to be a part of the show from a young age, and I feel I was able to establish myself and my career because of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show... I love the camaraderie that VS has cultivated over all these years. I’m looking forward to doing it with girls who are like sisters to me as well as the girls that get to experience this for the first time. It’s an incredible feeling.”

The Performers:

Cher is officially set to perform at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2024 on October 15, marking an iconic addition to the event's history. The legendary Believe performer will take center stage, bringing her decades of experience and a slew of unforgettable hits to the runway. Fans can expect a dazzling performance alongside her bold, genre-defying style.

But the show-stopping vocalist won't be the only crooner lighting up the stage. Rising star Tyla, the South African singer making waves with hits like Water and Getting Late, is bringing her sultry sound of Afrobeats, pop, and R&B to the event. Meanwhile rapper, singer, and dancer Lisa from BLACKPINK, is set to electrify the audience with her fierce stage presence and chart-topping hits like Money and Lalisa.

This year’s show is making history by featuring an all-women performer lineup for the first time ever, showcasing not only groundbreaking artists but also empowering female voices. In past years, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has hosted an array of world-class performers such as Taylor Swift, Rihanna, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber.
