Canadians Are Sharing The Shockingly Normal Things They Come Down To The US To Buy, And You Probably Have Some Of These Things In Your Pantry Right Now
Across Reddit, Canadians have been sharing for a while now the everyday essential items they'll come down to the US just to buy. These things are so everyday that it's pretty likely you already have several sitting on a shelf right now. Here are just 13 that stood out:
These responses, which have been edited for length and clarity, were compiled from several Reddit threads: here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
1."Costco brings in shipments of Karbon 100% merino wool full sleeve shirts from time to time at $20 each. Anything from Karbon in Canada, the last I looked was, $50 plus and not the same."
2."I usually go over the Vermont border from Quebec to buy a tank full of cheap gas. And while I am at it, I pick up stuff that I buy on eBay at the gas station, which runs a package receiving service. Then I spend what I save on gas in the grocery store."
3."Dot's Pretzels: I just happened to pick these up while I was in the US a year or two ago, just as a snack. They're amazing... You can order them through Amazon, but they charge a ridiculous amount. But the longer I go without them, the more I'm tempted to bite the bullet and pay extra for them. They're THAT good."
4."Walmart in the States has 1-liter bottles of flavoured sparkling water that are made in Canada but not available in the Canadian Walmart. We always grab some of those on our travels."
5."Trader Joe's Tomato Basil Marinara is very good and very cheap at $1.99 a jar (garlic and marinara)."
6."I visit a Trader Joe's... I always look in the spice aisle for the hilarious recipe concoctions and always buy a couple of the funnier ones like spice mixes and things."
"Trader Joe's cookie butter. Just don't try to carry it on a plane."
7."Newman's Own salad dressing, which is no longer available in Canada. Whenever we go to the US, we grab a half dozen bottles of Family Recipe Italian Dressing. It's great stuff, and all the profit goes to charity."
8."I stock up on Kerrygold, or Costco Grass-Fed Butter, and freeze it. It's about 1/3 the price of what it is in Canada."
"I used to find it in a local grocery store in East End Toronto about 10 years ago. Some European/British food stores still carry it. It just takes looking."
9."They closed J.Crew in Canada, and ordering online costs way more than the exchange rate. They have brightly coloured cashmere sweaters, so they're great to grab in person."
"I have two of those exact sweaters. They’re so nice."
10."Lotus Speculoos (aka Lotus Biscoff Cookies)... Can find them at Walmart in the USA or off Amazon.ca."
11."Gardetto's Snack Mix. They have small rye chips in it, and they are so delicious. Haven't been able to find it in Canada."
12."I load up on peach Fresca and now Dr Pepper with cream soda."
"We like to get all the Mountain Dew flavors not available here. And the Coke flavors, too."
13."I usually spend $40–50 USD on Starburst jellybeans... It's still worth going once a year for the jelly beans!"
14."Literally anything at Target. I live in a border city. And from Friday night through Sunday night, our Target is 99% Canadians. T.J. Maxx and Sam's Club, too."
15.Finally, "Literally driving over the border tomorrow solely for Chobani Flip and Trader Joe's Everything Ciabatta Rolls."
"I'll be doing the same for Chobani Coffee Creamer and Kerrygold Butter."
