Skittles Pop'd Original and Sour are coming to retailers this fall

Get ready to crunch on Skittles like you never have before.

On Oct. 15, Mars Wrigley revealed Skittles Pop’d: a freeze-dried twist on the classic fruity candies. Previously, freeze-dried Skittles were only available through third-party brands.

Skittles Pop'd will be available starting on Oct. 21 via TikTok Shop before selling at retailers “later this fall,” according to a press release. An exact date has not been announced but the products will be fully available nationwide in early 2025.

The crispy adaptation of the gummy candies, available in original and sour bags, includes both classic and new flavors. Skittles Pop’d Original contains strawberry, lemon, lime, orange and grape — just like its non-freeze-dried counterparts.

Meanwhile, the usual Sour Skittles come in sour strawberry, sour lime, sour lemon, sour orange and sour grape flavors, but Skittles Pop’d Sour are a bit different. Each 5.5-oz. package includes sour lemonade, sour blue raspberry, sour strawberry, sour watermelon and sour cherry.

PEOPLE staffers got to try the new candies before the release. Inside each bag, the candies look like they are bursting out of their shells. Some testers had previously tried off-brand freeze-dried Skittles from other sellers and said that these looked a little less uniform than those unofficial confections. Some of the Mars Wrigley candies stuck together or were broken in half in the bag — but that didn't stop us from digging in.

Immediately upon popping the candies in our mouths, the testers oohed and aahed at the new flavors, particularly the bright blue raspberry. Unlike the usual Sour Skittles that get their sour flavor from a sugary coating, the Skittles Pop’d Sour candies taste as if they have the sour flavor inside the shells. This makes for a slightly delayed sour taste.

The texture pleasantly surprised testers, who had worried that the normally chewy candies would get stuck in their teeth. Instead, each candy has a melt-in-your-mouth airiness, like “the hard pieces in cotton candy,” said one tester.

Skittles Pop'd will be the first Mars Wrigley confectionary brand to hit TikTok Shop on Oct. 21.
