Make delicious churros-style bites in your air fryer - using nothing but crumpets.

Air fryers have become the latest kitchen sensation, with countless recipes popping up, from crisping up slices of frozen pizza to giving your leftover takeaway a new lease of life. But it's not just savoury dishes that these versatile gadgets can transform; they're also a game-changer for whipping up sweet treats.

One such dessert taking the internet by storm is air fryer churros. Originating from Spanish and Portuguese cuisine, traditional churros are made from choux pastry dough, piped into long strips, and fried in oil. However, an ingenious twist on the classic has emerged using none other than the humble crumpet, a British breakfast favourite.

There are many different different recipes all over social media, and TikTok user Elli Tamar recently posted a video trying out the tasty treat. To create these churro-inspired delights, simply cut crumpets into bite-sized chunks and toss them in a mixture of melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon.

While Elli didn't specify quantities in her video, she mentioned in the comments that she used "a little bit" of each, suggesting that the proportions can be adjusted according to personal preference.

Give the ingredients a good mix to evenly distribute the sugar and cinnamon over your crumpet pieces, then simply introduce them into your air fryer and cook at 180 degrees "until crispy". Elli mentioned that this process "didn't take long" but refrained from setting a specific time, suggesting you might need to check back often.

Post-cooking, tip the bites onto a plate, lace them with a generous pour of chocolate syrup or melted chocolate spread, and relish what Elli heralded as "one of the best things" she's created in her air fryer.

She enthused in her video's caption: "Not all viral recipes are actually good ... but I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that this was one of the BEST things I've eaten and made in my air fryer. MAKE IT NOW."

Feedback from commenters was swift, with many keen on procuring crumpets just to give the recipe a whirl. Additionally, a tip-off revealed an equally flavoursome variation - using bagels.

One commenter exclaimed: "I'm not a particularly big fan of crumpets, but churros are divine, and I'm 1000% trying this! " Meanwhile, another shared their appreciation, stating: "What an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing."
