Puerto Ricans, Tell Us Your Favorite Thing About The Island And Your Culture

On Sunday, former president Donald Trump held a campaign rally at Madison Square Garden, where thousands of people gathered to hear speakers like Elon Musk and Dr. Phil endorse Donald Trump for president.

Tony Hinchcliffe, a comedian and podcast host, was among the speakers who not only called Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage" but also "joked" about how Latinos "love making babies."

He said: "There's no pulling out. They don't do that. They come inside, just like they did to our country."

As someone who is half Puerto Rican, it was disheartening to hear a comedian say these things in 2024, especially during a presidential rally. Even though Puerto Rican celebrities like Bad Bunny and Ricky Martin have shown support for their home island, I wanted to connect with Puerto Ricans from the BuzzFeed Community to share their favorite things about Puerto Rico and their culture. So my question for you is, if you identify as Puerto Rican and live on the island or mainland, "What is your favorite thing about Puerto Rico, your culture, and your heritage?"

For instance, do you love how community oriented the Puerto Rican culture is, whether it's for dinner, chisme (gossip), or special occasions?

Or do you love how delicious our Puerto Rican food is, whether it's coquito, Mofongo, or Arroz con Gandules, especially if it's made with abuela's love?

Or finally, is there something about the island itself that you want to discuss, like the strength of its people after the hurricanes, the coquí frogs, or the beautiful, vibrant architecture.
