Prince William issues his own statement confirming support of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle romance
It’s all going on in royal towers. Just to refresh your memory. Back in October rumours started swirling that Prince Harry had bagged himself a new girlfriend in the form of ‘Suits’ actress Meghan Markle.
The Internet went into melt down with the 35-year-old American actress finding herself on the end of some pretty extreme trolling.
Unhappy with the public reaction, Kensington Palace issued a statement on behalf of Prince Harry that not only confirmed his relationship with Meghan, but also implored the public for privacy and respect.
Considering the royals rarely issue statements concerning William and Harry’s private lives, this was a pretty out-there move. So much so that people started questioning whether Prince William was in support of his brother’s decision to release the statement.
But, now, in another unprecedented move, the Palace has issued a second release to The Telegraph putting an end to the rumours of a lack of sibling support and confirming that The Duke of Cambridge was fully behind his brother’s original decision to release the statement.
“The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him,” the statement reads.
Although William is understood to have been wary of setting a precedent for confirming royal relationships, he agreed with his younger brother that the situation was too extreme to ignore.
A royal source told The Telegraph: “They don’t issue statements like that without talking to each other, and they talked about the Meghan Markle statement extensively in advance of it being put out.
“The Duke was as alarmed as anyone about what was happening with Meghan. No-one wanted to have to put that statement out, including Prince Harry, and there was concern about confirming the relationship.”
“But over the course of one weekend things escalated to the extent that Prince Harry felt he had to act.”
