The funeral of Phillip’s beloved mum Patricia was held on Friday at St Michael’s Church in Newquay, Cornwall, and Phillip was seen among the pallbearers carrying the casket into the ceremony. He was joined by close family including his former wife Stephanie, and their daughters Ruby and Molly.

The wicker casket, adorned with a floral display that included white roses, was carefully placed into the hearse by pallbearers after the service. For the sombre occasion, Phillip wore a pale shirt paired with a navy jacket, dark trousers, and black shoes, while his wife Stephanie chose a coordinated blue jumper and skirt complemented by black boots.

Their daughters Molly and Ruby wrapped up in black coats outside the church, with Molly in a teal dress and Ruby in a dark green outfit for their grandmother's funeral.

Phillip had announced the passing of his mum on Instagram last month. He wrote on 15 October: "Today, at 3pm and after a heartbreaking weekend, my magnificent mum decided it was time to go to her beloved Brian." Phillip’s father, Brian Schofield, died following a heart attack in 2008.

The 62 year old continued, "Over three days, we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that needed to be said. She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified. I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mum."

Phillip also expressed his gratitude, saying: "Our eternal thanks to the paramedics, Treliske AandE and Critical Care team who have been, in the past and this weekend, my mum's and our angels. Your love and care has been our saviour."

Following his departure from ITV last year, Phillip had spent time with his mother at her home in Cornwall. He recently returned to the spotlight to appear in the Channel 5 reality series Cast Away, in which he spent 10 days on a deserted island near Madagascar, with only a camera for company.

During his time on the island he spoke about his career and his time away from the spotlight since he left This Morning.
