Met Gala 2023: Kim Kardashian channels Playboy look as daughter North West makes debut
Kim Kardashian has channelled her infamous Playboy shoot at the 2023 Met Gala while attending with an unexpected guest: her daughter, North West.
Kardashian, 42, wore a custom Schiaparelli look to fashion’s night of nights, which included a beige corseted waist, with beaded pearls acting as both a top and a skirt.
The look is strikingly similar to a shot from Kardashian’s 2007 Playboy shoot in which she wore a long layered pearl necklace, and nothing else.

“Is this not an ode to her Playboy cover shoot?” Twitter user @emiliesobel asked, while @MeeGell said: “Kim Kardashian’s look referenced her Playboy shoot more than Karl.”
The 2023 Met Gala theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, a tribute to the late creative director of Chanel who passed away in 2019.
The Schiaparelli dress could be a sign that Kardashian is trying to rewrite history as she continues her style evolution from fresh-faced reality star to high-fashion mogul.
Following the red carpet, which she walked alongside her half-sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Kardashian bought out her special guest for the evening: her nine-year-old daughter, North West.

To this year’s Met Gala, North wore baggy jeans paired with a tweed pink blazer, the latter a direct homage to Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel tenure.
The eldest child of Kardashian and ex-husband Kanye West, North has become a firm fixture alongside her mum at red carpets and fashion shows in recent years.
North made her fashion week debut at Givenchy’s Spring/Summer show in Paris in 2015 when she was just a year old.
Since then, she has sat between Beyonce and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour at the Adidas Originals x Kanye West Yeezy Season 1 show, also in 2015, and front row with her parents at the 2015 Alexander Wang show.

She also made her rap debut at her father’s Yeezy Season 8 show in 2020, and attended the Dior Homme Spring/Summer 2023 show in Paris with her mum last year.
North has also been front row at fashion shows for Jean-Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, and Balenciaga.
She is also the only Kardashian-West child to have a social media presence. North often posts TikTok videos both with and without her mum to their joint TikTok page, @kimandnorth.
While Kardashian’s other children, Saint, 7, Chicago, 5, and Psalm, 3, are often featured on Kardashian’s Instagram page, it seems North is being prepped to be the first of the next generation of Kardashian influencers. Watch this space.
