Pregnant Meghan Markle makes first 2019 appearance - but her shoes steal the limelight

The Duchess of Sussex wore a chic, workwear-inspired outfit today as she paid a visit to one of her first patronages Smart Works. The pregnant royal donned a £2,492.63 sand-coloured cotton-twill coat from Oscar de la Renta with a more affordable £170 black dress by US maternity label Hatch.

She accessorised with a pair of £315 statement earrings by ethical brand Kimai and a £900 Victoria Beckham tote bag.

But it was her cow-print heels (thought to be from Gianvito Rossi) that were the focal point.

First spotted in an Instagram photo of her shoe collection that the Duchess uploaded back in her social media, the patterned heels are arguably the boldest footwear the 37-year-old’s worn as a member of the Royal Family.

The mum-to-be’s fans were quick to comment on the shoes on social media, labelling them as ‘fierce’ and ‘to die for’.

Smart Works is a charity which helps long-term unemployed and vulnerable women regain the skills, confidence and tools to succeed at job interviews so they can return to employment.

One of the ways in which they do this is by assisting women to find outfits for job interviews.

Former actress Meghan turned stylist for the visit and helped to select clothes for one of the charity’s clients, Patsy Wardally.

During a round-table chat, the Duchess spoke about how important is it to restore confidence through coaching and clothes.

She said: “It’s not just donating your clothes and seeing where they land, it’s really being part of each other’s success stories as women, right?

“It’s not just hand-me-downs, it’s saying this is the blazer I wore that helped me win that interview and I want this to be the piece that helps this woman to have that part of her story.”

As well as providing outfits, Smart Works also provides beneficiaries with access to one-to-one interview training.

To date the charity has helped over 11,000 women and aims to dress 3,500 women this year across their two London offices, and additional bases in key cities across the UK – Edinburgh, Manchester, Reading, Birmingham and Newcastle.
