Maura Higgins honestly opens up on ‘dark thoughts’ after Love Island fame saying: 'I didn't want to be here anymore'
Love Island star Maura Higgins has revealed she “didn’t want to be here anymore” after appearing on the hit ITV2 show in 2019. The TV star, 33, has opened up about her “dark thoughts,” explaining that rising to fame and into the public eye on the dating show was an incredibly difficult time in her life.
Speaking in an emotional chat on Married At First Sight expert Paul C. Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast today, the Irish star shared : “Life after Love Island was a very hard time in my life… I was just dropped to the UK. It was like someone just picked me up, dropped me to the UK and I was in the public eye. I had nowhere to live. I had no friends, no family, nobody I could trust.” She added that she was living out of a suitcase in a hotel in London, because that’s where she needed to be for work commitments - but that she was too overworked, with no breaks, and was “faking a smile”.
It got too much, and, she revealed: "I had a breakdown. I had dark thoughts, very dark thoughts… And it got to a stage where I don't even think I told my mam. I tell my mum everything. I didn't tell her how bad it was… I didn't want to be here anymore. I thought that was going to be the best thing.”

She added: "There was so much expected from me. And because I was there on my own, I was like, ‘I've just got nobody to help’.
Revealing all in the honest admission, Maura then explained that at the time, her best friend from home demanded that she return home for a break, which she did and ultimately helped.
