The sun-drenched days, seafood feasts and beach holidays of summer might be behind us for another year, but there's much to look forward to for the season ahead. Namely, the beautiful colours of autumn, crisp country walks, cosy pubs, roaring fireplaces, weekend roasts, mulled wine, and, of course, the most wonderful of them all: Christmas.

Not to cause alarm, but all the fun and festivities surrounding December 25th are a lot closer than you might think, so it's high time to start getting those plans in order – particularly if you're thinking of organising something special. Luckily, we've done some of the hard work for you, and not only collated all the best recipes for the big day itself, but also found the best Christmas hotels to book, winter cabins to hole up in and even curated a list of the most fabulously festive holidays to help inspire your next cold-weather getaway.

If you want to plan something truly extraordinary, however, there's only one experience that will fit the bill: Christmas lunch aboard the iconic British Pullman.

The Belmond British Pullman is nothing short of the most glamorous train in the UK, and has recently been restored to its opulent 1920s heyday, when it carried royals, film stars and politicians alike. This Christmas, though, the vintage carrier's beautiful wood-panelled carriages will be transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with bespoke decorations, crisp white linen and sparkling crystal for an afternoon of unadulterated festive luxury.

Guests will be welcomed on board at London's Victoria station with a champagne reception, before sitting down to a festive feast that celebrates the best of British cuisine. Think Cornish monkfish, Suffolk guinea hen and Devon artichoke tart, paired with fine wines selected by the train's own sommelier.

As the train makes its way along the scenic countryside route, the good times naturally roll, with help from festive entertainment, surprises aplenty, and, of course, the lashings of champagne... We can think of no better way to celebrate the most wonderful time of year with loved ones. Can you?
