Lucy Watson breaks down in tears over fertility struggles before son's birth: 'It's so hard to think about'

Made In Chelsea star Lucy Watson has movingly spoken about her fertility struggles on the new spin-off series, Beyond Chelsea. The 33 year old reality star, who now has a seven month old son named Willoughby, revealed she struggled to conceive with her husband James Dunmore, and found things especially tough when her younger sister Tiffany was pregnant before her.

Lucy spoke about her close bond with her sister, saying: “I go to her for parenting advice now. We have both had our fertility issues and we have been there for each other so much. Tiff fell to the floor and balled her eyes out when I told her I was pregnant!”

She added: “I will never forget the fertility struggles that I had. When I found I was pregnant I just couldn't believe it. It wasn't the first positive test I had seen, and I was convinced it was going to go wrong. After the first scan and hearing the heartbeat I finally believed it. Tiff being pregnant before me was hard as it shone a light on what I didn't have.”

She then began to cry as she said: “It's so hard to think about - I'm so lucky now so I don't know why I'm crying, it's stupid. It was just a hard time.” In another clip, Tiffany - who is mum to son Jude - admitted she found it difficult telling her sister she was pregnant. “I found it hard because you were so happy for me but I felt really felt, not like I was rubbing it in, but I felt bad.”

Lucy has previously spoken about her fertility struggles, sharing an emotional video on TikTok last year after she announced her pregnancy. She said: "I owed it to everyone who is going through struggles with fertility to do a little video just acknowledging your pain, basically, because...." She then took a break to collect herself as she said: "Sorry, I didn't want to get emotional.. this was not the plan, hang on..."

Lucy then continued: “Sorry, I'm just emotional as it is at the moment anyway, but I just want to acknowledge those with fertility issues as I know that my [pregnancy] news would have been triggering for a lot of people and I respect that and I can relate to that. I think fertility issues aren't necessarily talked about enough.”

She then talked about the motherhood journey she and some of her friends had been going on that led them to realise that some of them might find it “harder” than others, and she urged people, even if they were not looking to get pregnant immediately, to get testing done to identify any potential issues with conceiving early on.

"Do it sooner rather than later - don't wait until you're ready to try," she urged. "There can be so many things underlying that we are not aware of.”

She added: "I have to say, what I've learned through this process, is that the NHS isn't the best. But if you're persistent and chase things up, they can be really helpful."

At the end of the video, Lucy said: "I'm not miserable by the way, I'm an emotional person and this can be a really hard topic to talk about, but I am going to keep talking about it and try and help others as much as I can."

Lucy is back on screens in Beyond Chelsea with other MIC stars Rosie Fortescue and Binky Felstead.
