Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy explained on social media why she left him in Argentina, just days before his tragic death. On Wednesday (16 October), it was announced Liam had died after falling from the third floor of a hotel. Despite being together for a holiday, Kate was not with him when the tragic events unfolded.
Liam and Kate were spending time together in Argentina and had gone to a concert by One Direction bandmate Niall Horan just days earlier. However, Kate took to social media saying after two weeks away and travelling with Liam, she was desperate to get back to her home in Florida.
Two days ago on TikTok, Kate explained: "Honestly, love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long. And we were supposed to be there for, like, five days, turned into two weeks. I was just like, ‘I need to go home.’"
Liam chose not to go with her but Kate didn't specify a reason as to why. Instead, she showed off her luxury flight home which included a steak meal. She also showed her boarding pass, made a joke about how her seat number was "1D”. She added: "I was so happy to be home. It was so relieving."
Kate appeared in the very last photo Liam shared on social media before his passing. The pair cosied up together for a mirror selfie. Kate also took a picture of the pair of them together riding horses in the countryside. In the caption, Kate wrote: "I am very grateful for the simple things in life."
In footage which was filmed days before his death, Liam was seen saying: "This is the breakfast table, just enjoying breakfast and coffee even though it's 1pm." Kate could be heard in the background joking that the pair were "losers" for laying in so late. Kate was first linked to Liam in October 2022, and made their very first public appearance two months later on the red carpet.
The news broke late on Wednesday evening that there had been an incident in the hotel where he was staying. In a statement, the local ambulance manager told TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel.
"At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."
