LadBaby stars Mark and Roxanne Hoyle have revealed the real reason why they stopped releasing Christmas songs. While they may have started off as content creators, known for posting lighthearted videos online, the duo quickly became music successes after releasing a string of festive singles between 2018 and 2022.

However, after topping the Christmas charts for five years in a row, thanks to songs including I Love Sausage Rolls and Don't Stop Me Eatin’ as well as a collaboration with Ed Sheeran and Elton John, LadBaby pulled out of the Christmas number one single race in 2023 - and now they’ve revealed the reason why.

Mark and Roxanne used the singles to raise money for the food bank charity the Trussell Trust, now known as Trussell, though faced backlash after allegations spread that they were pocketing the money. Despite Trussell stepping in to say that the allegations were false, the pair faced online abuse, threats and blackmail attempts which led to Mark experiencing panic attacks.

“I think I always will, but I’m better at dealing with them now. I can see them coming, I understand how they are,” Mark told The Guardian as he opened up on his panic attacks. Meanwhile, Roxanne added: “I’m devastated we’re not doing another song, because those songs shouldn’t have been about trolling and controversy.”

During their five-year career in music, LadBaby raised over £1 million for charity. In December 2022, Trussell tweeted: “They’ve raised £1,305,000 for us through brand partnerships and songs in total. With their No 1s solely they’ve raised a total of £305K for us. We’re so grateful to LadBaby for helping us raise vital funds, but also awareness of the issues people locked in poverty are facing.”

The revelation comes after Roxanne tearfully opened up about the “emotional rollercoaster” they’d be on while writing their book Our LadBaby Journey: Success, Sacrifice and Sausage Rolls. “To be totally honest, I still can’t believe in two weeks time a story about our life will be out there for people to read,” she shared on Instagram.

“We are a positive family and our story is about never giving up, but we’ve had obstacles we’ve had to overcome that we never thought would come from living our lives online. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster where we’ve laughed and cried. But as we get closer to everyone reading it, I realise how bloody proud I am of all we have accomplished and the mark we’ve left on the world.”
