This time last year, Ella Morgan was an unknown clinical consultant living with her grandmother in Weston-super-Mare. But she found fame after appearing on Married At First Sight UK where she walked away from her marriage to Nathanial Valentino before striking up a relationship with another groom in the experiment, JJ Slater.

That relationship also didn’t work out – JJ is now dating Katie Price – but Ella was determined to find love and appeared on the latest series of Celebs Go Dating. Ella, 30, finally got her happy ending when she was matched by the CGD experts with hairdresser Alex Ali, 34.

“I’m so besotted with him, every time I talk about him I get this big smile on my face,” she says, incidentally with a big smile on her face. “He’s so handsome. He’s so different from what I usually go for, he’s quite like a hippy and out there.”

While it’s still early days – they have been together since July – they are about to go on their first romantic holiday and she’s already thinking about the future. Speaking to OK! exclusively at the EGO x Grace Rosa Jackson collection launch at Paris Fashion Week, Ella says that if Alex proposed now she’d say yes.

Ella, a transgender trailblazer, tells us she knows Alex is the one because he’s the first boyfriend who has fully accepted her. “It’s the first time in my life I’ve met a guy and I haven’t had to sit and talk about my transness,” she says. “He doesn’t care about my past and we just get on so well.” Here, Ella tells OK! about saying the “L” word to Alex, her past relationships and her thoughts on the new series of MAFS UK...

Hi, Ella! How are things going with Alex?

I’m so proud to be with him and I’m so proud to have a boyfriend that is as amazing as Alex, he’s so open-minded and accepting. He has never been with anyone trans. He is a straight guy and he isn’t into me because he’s got some fetish which is kind of what I’m used to. He’s not embarrassed by me. He says that he genuinely doesn’t find it weird that I was born in the wrong body as he just sees me as Ella, and that’s what I want.

Have you said the “L” word yet?

We have actually both said it, but when we were drunk. We’re not in love with each other, but we love each other as people. It is coming though. It’s going to get to that stage where it’s going to come out, and we’re going to be like, “I love you”, but I’m not saying it until he says it first!

Could he be The One?

I do genuinely believe I am going to marry this boy. Oh, my God, I love it. I said it on the show, but honestly, I do believe I’m gonna be with him. I want loads of kids. Right now, we’re boyfriend and girlfriend but I do think he’ll ask me at some point in the future, and I would happily say yes. If you ask me right now, I think I’d say yes! I’m besotted!

How does your experience on Celebs Go Dating, compare to Married At First Sight UK?

Being on MAFS UK was great, don’t get me wrong, but being on Celebs Go Dating, whether I met Alex or not, I changed more as a person in a positive way on this show. It has changed my life because it’s taught me stuff about myself, it taught me so much about me and why I say the things I do, and why I do things I do, and how much I wore my heart on my sleeve, and I was vulnerable. And if it wasn’t for that show, I wouldn’t be the person that I am now. I’ve grown so much over the last year since I’ve been in the public eye. It has literally changed my life.

What are your thoughts about this year’s series of MAFS UK?

So I actually know Lacey [Martin], her sister Paige is a friend of mine. I don’t know Emma [Barnes], who’s probably my favourite, but she’s from Bristol, so from my neck of the woods. I think she is amazing.

Do you have any regrets about your time on MAFS UK?

I don’t live my life with regrets because I’ve learned from the things I did. I regret that people got hurt – I got hurt – but other people got hurt in the process of me getting with one of the other husbands. But I was myself. Maybe I shouldn’t have said I’m a girl’s girl in the moment that I did, where I was taking someone else’s husband. I wanted to tell her off camera privately, but I wasn’t allowed. I handled it the best I could with what I had.

How do you look back on your relationship with JJ?

I’m glad the public got to see me be with someone who was straight and cisgender, which is all I wanted. I tried my hardest to work with Nathanial, and wanted it to work, but he didn’t, and that’s fine. I wasn’t his cup of tea. I’m just glad people got to see me have a chance at love with someone that did like me.

I don’t think it’s ever really been on TV before [a cis man and a trans girl]. I do take my hat off to [JJ] as it was life-changing for me. Do I think it was genuine? I don’t know. But we’ve both moved on and I wish him the best in his relationship.
