Kate's brother James on one thing she wanted from the Royal wedding
The Princess of Wales' brother James Middleton has revealed one of the things Kate wanted most during her wedding to Prince William in 2011.
Speaking at Good Housekeeping Live with Country Living Christmas Market, James Middleton explained that, despite the grandeur of the Royal Wedding, it was ultimately about "two families coming together and my sister wanted all of us [her side of the family] to be a part".
James therefore agreed to do a reading on the day but admitted, "I didn't quite realise how big royal weddings were!"
James described his amazement seeing how many people who had come out onto the streets in celebration. He said that while the idea of doing the reading at such a momentous event was "terrifying", he'd practiced plenty of times beforehand in his local church with his beloved dog, Ella.
"I'd rehearsed it to the point that I can still say it now," he told GH Managing Director Liz Moseley during his talk.
When the moment came for James to stand up on the day, he said he looked out and "all I could see were the familiar faces of my sister and brother in law's friends, family, and - I suppose! - the royal family," which meant it was less daunting than he had expected.
After also doing a speech at the wedding of his other sister, Pippa, in 2017, James admitted that he had warned both Pippa and Kate that he would make them to do a flute recital (they both played the instrument as children) if he ever got married one day. Luckily for them, he let them off the hook when he married Alizee Thevenet in 2021.
