Jennifer Lawrence breathes new life into archival Christian Lacroix
Jennifer Lawrence has entered a new chapter of her style evolution in her pregnancy with her second child. Last night, the actress attended the premiere for her upcoming film Bread & Roses, wearing a special archive piece from Christian Lacroix.
Lawrence looked luminous as she appeared on the red carpet, cradling her growing bump in a black couture gown by the French designer. The dress featured sheer fabric and translucent spaghetti straps which allowed for the delicate off-the-shoulder sleeves and sweetheart neckline to take centre stage. The look was completed with a bejewelled brooch and satin ribbon thrown over one shoulder.
Despite the fact that this piece was a rare archival find originally shown in Christian Lacroix's 2006 autumn collection, the water-like movement and flowing cut of the gown looked like it was made to measure for the 34-year-old.
Make-up artist Georgie Eisdell created a soft, glowing look to accompany the dress, opting for plum-hued eyeshadow, a light touch of blush and a satin pink lip. Lawrence's golden hair was styled in a sleek side parting, tucked behind her ears and worn freely down her back.
The look was created by Lawrence's stylist, Jamie Mizrahi, who enlisted the help of the vintage expert and archivist Cherie Balch, known as @ShrimptonCouture on Instagram. Balch has a well-established catalogue of celebrity red-carpet looks under her belt, offering her services to help stylists and their clients find one-off pieces for red carpet and event appearances.
Posting a photo of Lawrence to Instagram, Balch shared the process of finding the dress in the caption; "This was one of the first pieces I thought of for her and even before Jennifer and Jamie saw it in person they were head over heels. We all just knew!"
She continued: "This dress is already beautiful on a non-pregnant body but with a bump?!…It turns into something that is pure magic! Beautiful in every way! She is glowing."
This isn't the first time that Lawrence has worn an archival piece on the red carpet; the actress attended the Vanity Fair Oscars party in a Givenchy by John Galliano sheer floral couture dress earlier this year. Meanwhile, off the red carpet, her 'quiet luxury' style evolution and documented love of minimalist brand The Row has cemented her status as a modern fashion muse.
