This Ingenious Gallery Wall Hack Uses an Old-School Thrift Store Find

If you’re an avid thrifter, then you’re probably very familiar with sorting through shelves of secondhand finds, including heaps of tarnished silver serveware. And while these pieces are gorgeous, caring for them is a job in itself (wash, shine, buff, repeat). Instead, you could do as one Instagrammer did and figure out a better way to justify buying low-cost silver serveware — just hang it on your wall!

“I love thrift store silver platters,” Brittney, the creator behind Our Itty Bitty Home on Instagram, wrote in a recent video. “They are so cheap and abundant. Here is a great way to make a statement wall for cheap.”

Using adhesive plate hangers, Brittney was able to create a statement gallery wall using just thrifted silver serveware. She combined a range of styles and finishes, both polished and tarnished, to create a nice variety of color and texture within the installation.

“I really like the mix of sizes and not all polished the same way,” one person commented on Brittney’s post. Another said, “I have been using silver trays as wall decor for about 10 years. I occasionally polish but I like the tarnished look of them. It’s a great idea.”

And like every other gallery wall out there, the best part about this silver platter setup is that you can keep adding it to it every time you find a new piece at the thrift store. As long as you have the wall space, this statement wall can keep growing.

Silver platters may seem old-school and impractical, but this unique styling idea shows a fresh way to work silver platters into your home decor and give them a brand-new life.
